Solo developer Unknown Hex has announced that its survival crafting adventure Until North Ends will launch into Early Access on August 31, sending players on a journey through harsh Nordic lands where fighting, farming, and foraging are the only way to survive.

Paying homage to classic top-down adventures with its stylized low-poly design and overhead perspective, Until North Ends offers a more relaxed take on the survival crafting genre, one that players are free to shape however they see fit. Solo or with friends, players will need to withstand both the elements and the enemies scattered across procedurally generated worlds, where every island brings its own dangers and resources to contend with.

Combat is left entirely up to the player. Whether that means suiting up in heavy armour for melee encounters, keeping distance with a bow, or channelling a powerful chain lightning attack, Until North Ends wants players to fight on their own terms. That same freedom extends to character creation, with customization options ranging from hair colour to tattoos, letting players and their fellow adventurers build a look as outrageous or grounded as they like.

Exploration plays a major role as well. Players can sail across the waters in search of new islands, descend into caves and dungeons for loot, or wander through peaceful meadows, with each procedurally generated world offering its own unique encounters along the way.

Survival will also mean building. Players can construct a home base to protect themselves and prepare for their next expedition, with downtime spent watching crops grow and decorating a cozy corner of the world to call their own. Naturally, a wooden sword won’t get anyone far in this world, so gathering and refining resources is essential. Ores can be smelted, materials combined, plants extracted at the alchemy table, and leather cured, all in the pursuit of the rare materials needed to craft top-tier equipment.
