In this review, I will be covering the physical release of Ty The Tasmanian Tiger: Bush Rescue Bundle – Deluxe for Nintendo Switch. I will first go over the physical set itself and what comes in it, then the games themselves.
The packaging for the Deluxe Edition is impressive, with a sturdy box that houses the game, art book, and redemption code for the digital soundtrack. The attention to detail is evident in the design and presentation of the bundle.
The included art book is a fantastic addition to the bundle. It features concept art, character designs, and behind-the-scenes development materials for all three games in the collection. The book offers a fascinating glimpse into the creation of the games and is a must-have for fans of the series!
The stories for all three games in this bundle are broken down below.
TY the Tasmanian Tiger: In this first adventure, TY, a young Tasmanian Tiger, embarks on a quest to save his family and friends from the evil Boss Cass. He must traverse various Australian environments, from the outback to the rainforest, using his unique abilities like boomerangs, tail whips, and burrowing to defeat enemies and solve puzzles.
TY the Tasmanian Tiger 2: Bush Rescue: The sequel continues TY’s adventures as he teams up with his friends Chris and Jenny to protect the Australian bush from the dastardly Dastardly Doug. The game introduces new power-ups, vehicles, and challenges, while expanding on the exploration and puzzle-solving elements of the first game.
TY the Tasmanian Tiger 4: This latest installment in the series sees TY return to action, once again tasked with saving the Australian bush from a new threat. The game features a great mix of platforming, combat, and puzzle-solving.
The first two games feature a combination of platforming, puzzle-solving, and combat. Players control TY as he jumps, climbs, and swings through levels, collecting items and defeating enemies. The combat system is simple yet satisfying, with TY using his boomerang to attack enemies from a distance. The puzzle-solving elements are well-designed, requiring players to think critically and use their environment to progress. Ty 4 still has exploration being paramount with there being a lot of hidden areas and things to collect, but differs from the first two due to it being a side scrolling platformer instead of 3D open world platformers as the first two are.
The graphics in the first two Ty games, while dated by today’s standards, still hold up well. The colorful and vibrant art style captures the charm of Australian wildlife and landscapes. The character models are expressive and well-animated, and the environments are detailed and varied. The games run smoothly on modern systems, with minimal performance issues. Ty 4 being a side scrolling platformer, the graphics are slightly brighter given it’s a newer game, it performs very well and looks really nice, regardless of the platform you play it on.
The sound design in both Ty 1 and Ty 2 are excellent. The music is catchy and fits the tone of the game, while the sound effects are well-implemented and add to the overall experience. The voice acting is also well-done, with the characters delivering humorous and memorable lines. Ty 4 features some amazing music as well, though there isn’t as much in the voice acting department, what you get here is still as good as the first two games featured in this collection.
The TY the Tasmanian Tiger collection is a nostalgic trip down memory lane for many gamers. While the first two games may show their age, they still offer a fun and charming platforming experience. Ty 4 isn’t as dated, but I do wish it was a 3D open world game as opposed to a side scrolling platformer.
The colorful visuals, catchy music, and humorous dialogue create a memorable adventure that is perfect for players of all ages.
Overall, the TY the Tasmanian Tiger collection is a fantastic package for fans of classic platformers. The games are still fun to play today, and the art book is a great bonus. If you’re looking for a nostalgic trip down memory lane, this collection is definitely worth checking out!
