Last week SEGA announced the new Sega Universe initiative for retro titles and we may have our first tease already. One of the game’s mentioned by SEGA when announcing the news was the treasure developed beat em up RPG Guardian Heroes, and the developer has started to comment on the situation. Specifically Treasure posted a tweet about the new initiative saying “look forward to future developments”

Treasure then posted new artwork for the character of Serena and the following message

“Common sense? For now, I decided to just charge straight at it head-on.
I seriously chased after “Can’t you make that even more fun?”
And carved out a view no one’s ever seen before, all on my own.
Rough around the edges. Pretty much reckless. Sometimes it spun out of control.
But that’s exactly why it was the real deal.

Oh, I got the image wrong.
Sega’s gonna be mad at me.”

Treasure then posted another tweet with the new Serena artwork with the rest of the cast, with the following message:

“Ah, Treasure-san, not yet.”
Days of getting scolded by Sega-sama.

It is unclear if Treasure is truly teasing news of a revival, or just having some fun with the news of Sega Universe, but the new artwork is interesting nonetheless. Guardian Heroes  is 30 years old this year, but has not been re-released besides an Xbox Live Arcade remaster in 2011. Hopefully something cool is announced soon.
