Amazon Game Studios and Crystal Dynamics are continuing to pull back the curtain on Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, with the latest behind-the-scenes video turning its attention toward one of Lara Croft’s most memorable enemies.
The seventh mini-documentary in the series focuses on Jacqueline Natla, the immortal former ruler of Ancient Atlantis and the ruthless CEO of Natla Technologies. As Lara sets out to uncover the secrets surrounding Atlantis, she will once again find herself coming face-to-face with an enemy whose ambitions are every bit as dangerous as the mysteries she is trying to uncover.
For Legacy of Atlantis, the developers are reimagining Lara Croft’s original 1996 adventure while giving its characters and world a modern treatment. That includes Natla, whose presence remains an important part of the story and Lara’s journey.
Adriene Wilkinson, who provides the voice and performance for Natla in Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, discusses the character’s appeal in the latest episode. While Natla can certainly be terrifying, Wilkinson believes there is something compelling about having a villain who pushes the hero to become better.
“She might be a little terrifying – but oh will you love every second around her,” Wilkinson said. “Stories like Tomb Raider need someone like Natla because stories need the idea of a ‘noble foe.’ It happens within everyone’s life. You have someone within your life that motivates you to push harder, to go further, and Natla does that. She raises the stakes every time she does something.”
That dynamic could make Natla particularly interesting to revisit in Legacy of Atlantis. Rather than simply serving as another obstacle for Lara to overcome, the character represents a direct challenge to the young adventurer as she becomes increasingly entangled in the secrets surrounding Atlantis.
The latest documentary also gives fans another look at how Crystal Dynamics is approaching the characters of the original Tomb Raider. The project is being positioned as a substantial reimagining of Lara’s debut rather than a straightforward recreation, with the team revisiting familiar elements while expanding and modernizing the experience for a new generation.
Natla is arguably one of the most recognizable parts of the original adventure outside of Lara herself, making her inclusion in the behind-the-scenes series a fitting choice as development continues. Her connection to Atlantis also makes her central to the mystery at the heart of the game, giving Lara considerably more to contend with than simply navigating ancient ruins and surviving the creatures lurking within them.
The previous documentaries have explored everything from Lara herself and the reimagined setting of Peru to the game’s creatures, traversal, puzzles, traps, combat, and progression. With the seventh episode now putting Natla in the spotlight, the series continues to offer a closer look at how Crystal Dynamics is rebuilding one of gaming’s most influential action-adventure experiences.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is currently scheduled to launch on February 12, 2027, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and Nintendo Switch 2. With Natla now getting her time in the spotlight, it will be interesting to see just how much the reimagining changes the relationship between Lara and the villain who helped define her first adventure.
