Ubisoft and Evil Empire have marked The Rogue Prince of Persia’s latest milestone with the release of its new “Anniversary” update, bringing a substantial collection of changes to the roguelite platformer. Alongside new content, the update takes a closer look at the game’s difficulty, pacing, combat balance, and overall progression.
One of the biggest additions is the new Freeze element, which gives players another way to control enemies during their runs. Applying two stacks of Freeze completely freezes an enemy and interrupts its attack, while the effect ends with a burst of heavy damage. The system also interacts with the environment, as enemies standing in water receive two stacks at once, while a Kick can immediately shatter frozen enemies and create opportunities to reposition.
The update also makes changes to the early-game experience and movement mechanics. New mandatory wallrun sections have been added to help players learn the movement flow, while wallrunning now contributes to filling the Vayu bar. Zagros and Aqueduct have also been compressed to reduce the amount of time spent running back through areas and get players into the action more quickly.
For players looking to keep a closer eye on their performance, a new Run Stats screen provides additional information about runs both in the Oasis and after successfully completing one. Weapons have also received a progression-focused change, with weapons now able to spawn with up to four affix slots ranging from Bronze to Diamond. These affixes can be rerolled through Astara’s Shop.
The Anniversary update also makes some significant balance adjustments. Critical-hit builds have been toned down after becoming particularly powerful, although new Critical Sharpener medallions provide additional options for players who want to build around critical attacks. Enemy and elite encounters have been reworked as well, with changes to mob density and new medallion drops from elite enemies.
New “Suspicious Chest” combat arenas add another set of challenges to tackle, while the final boss has also received a rework that makes Nogai an even more formidable opponent. These changes are joined by a sizeable collection of quality-of-life improvements and other adjustments across the game.
The Rogue Prince of Persia is available now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and Ubisoft Store.
