Nekki has revealed a new gameplay trailer and key art for its cinematic Gun Fu action game SPINE, while confirming that the game will launch for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in summer 2027.

Revealed during the Future Games Show, the new trailer introduces Judge, the supreme leader of Tensor City, alongside Tensor’s Children, Edda Kopp and Malady, who are also equipped with their own Spines. The footage also provides a closer look at the game’s combat system, including directional attacks, parries, dodges and environmental attacks, while showcasing several of its bosses and locations.

Players will travel through a variety of environments across Tensor City, ranging from tangled underground laboratories to the massive cliffs of the City’s Greenhouse. The trailer also features a particularly high-speed encounter taking place aboard a moving train.

SPINE is a single-player cinematic action game that combines close-quarters gunfights with Gun Fu combat. Players take on the role of Redline, a rebellious street artist who is equipped with Spine, a sentient combat implant with its own mind. Together, they take on the autocratic AI regime controlling Tensor City while searching for Redline’s captured brother.

Tensor City is a technocratic megacity built by an AI in an effort to protect humanity following the ecological collapse of the outside world. Life within the city is determined by a Social Rating that dictates everything from employment and access to food to who is ultimately discarded. The city itself is divided between the gleaming New City above and the decaying Old City below.

Redline lives in the city’s slums until a mafia heist goes horribly wrong and leaves her with little choice but to fight back against the system. Her search for her brother will take her through the contrasting environments of Tensor City and put her up against some of its most powerful figures.

Combat is built around Nekki’s Freeflow Gun Fu system, blending gunplay with close-quarters melee combat. Dynamic camerawork and choreography created with the involvement of action movie stunt specialists are designed to give encounters the feel of an action film while keeping players in control.

The game is being developed with Unreal Engine 5 alongside Nekki’s original animation engine, Cascadeur, with the goal of allowing players to create their own cinematic action sequences and approach encounters with different combinations of attacks and movement.

Alongside the game, Nekki is also expanding the SPINE universe through a webtoon comic, SPINE: Bullet Dancers, giving fans an opportunity to explore more of the game’s world ahead of its release.

SPINE is scheduled to launch in summer 2027 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
