Horse Position, a small studio consisting of a married couple who both work as professional animators, is developing a choice-driven visual novel called Tulpa the Unseen Lover, and the pair have confirmed they would be interested in bringing the game to Nintendo platforms down the line.
Tulpa the Unseen Lover follows a manga artist named Nick, a 23-year-old living alone in a foreign country, who creates a tulpa, a separate being that exists inside his mind, in the hopes that she might help him work through what he’s going through. Players will read through the story and make choices that shape its outcome, leading to multiple endings across roughly three hours of gameplay.
Horse Position says the duo have drawn on their industry experience, which includes work on Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Zootopia 2, and Overwatch cinematics, to build characters players will want to spend time with. The studio has also made a point of noting that every CG and cutscene in the game is hand-animated in Blender, with no generative AI used anywhere in the process.
According to GoNintendo, when asked directly whether a Switch or Switch 2 version was on the table, Horse Position responded:
“By all means, we would absolutely love to (bring the game to Switch or Switch 2)! However, we’re a very, VERY small team, so we’ll focus on Steam release first! We hope we’ll be able to expand afterwards.”
So nothing is locked in just yet, but the door is clearly open. Tulpa the Unseen Lover is currently slated for PC release, with a console version, Switch included, remaining a real possibility once the small team has the Steam launch behind them.
The game currently features two playable characters, Nick and his secret companion, referred to only as Nick’s Secret for now, with more characters said to be in development.
