Serafini Productions and Chilean indie studio Time Hunters have announced Signal Veil, a new third-person survival horror game that combines classic survival horror mechanics with a 90s anime-inspired visual style. The game is currently in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, with an announcement trailer providing the first look at its supernatural setting.
Signal Veil follows Aki Mizuno, a teenage girl whose mother disappears without explanation. Before vanishing, however, she leaves Aki an old cellphone with an unusual ability: it can detect spirits that cannot be seen by ordinary means. When a series of disappearances begins at Nishikawa High School, Aki finds herself drawn into a mystery involving supernatural entities, buried memories and a past that may not be what she remembers.
The game takes inspiration from survival horror classics such as Resident Evil and Silent Hill, while its presentation draws heavily from the look of 90s anime and psychological horror. Nishikawa High School serves as the primary setting, with its corridors and classrooms hiding both supernatural threats and clues to Aki’s increasingly fractured reality.
Aki’s cellphone is central to surviving these encounters. Its strange reactions can reveal nearby spirits through vibrations, static and visual distortions, while its flash can be used to stun enemies. The phone’s camera can also expose hidden objects and supernatural imprints that would otherwise remain invisible.
Combat is deliberately limited, with ammunition, medicine and mystical weapons in short supply. Rather than simply overwhelming enemies, players will need to learn how individual spirits behave and use the environment to their advantage. Encounters follow a more ritualistic process in which Aki must detect an entity, provoke it, stun it and expose its essence before performing the final purge.
Her mental state is just as important. As Aki’s sanity deteriorates, the world around her begins to change, enemies become less predictable and her ability to fight back becomes increasingly desperate. That gives Signal Veil another way to turn its psychological horror into a gameplay mechanic rather than relying solely on its atmosphere.
Signal Veil is currently in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Players can wishlist the game now, with further details on its release and development expected in the future.
