Top Hat Studios has added another intriguing indie project to its publishing lineup with the announcement of RGB: Execution, a 2D pixel-art action game from developer Purechito that puts a rather unusual spin on the boss rush formula. Rather than simply challenging players to overcome increasingly difficult opponents, the upcoming release places considerable emphasis on observation, experimentation, and understanding the mechanics behind each encounter.
Announced during the Top Hat Studios Fall Showcase 2026, RGB: Execution is set in a post-apocalyptic future where humanity has seemingly disappeared, leaving behind a world where the internet remains the last trace of civilization. The story begins on September 9, 2012, when an Altair unit is reactivated by an unknown entity after 7,305 days without a recorded activity. Despite the passage of time and the uncertain state of the world, its original mission remains unchanged: return to the ocean and kill Vega.
Developed around a series of distinctive boss encounters, RGB: Execution takes inspiration from games such as Shadow of the Colossus, with each opponent presenting a self-contained challenge that requires more than simply relying on quick reflexes. Players will need to observe enemy behaviour, experiment with different approaches, and figure out how each encounter is meant to be overcome. Combat incorporates familiar action mechanics such as slashing, parrying, and dashing, but the emphasis on tactical decision-making suggests that understanding an opponent will be just as important as executing attacks.
There is also a considerable narrative mystery surrounding the game’s setting and its central characters. The developers describe a world overtaken by generative AI, with the game’s story exploring the relationship between fiction, internet culture, and identity. Its central question of whether a fictional persona reflects someone’s true self or merely serves as a facade appears to be an important part of the experience, giving the otherwise straightforward objective of hunting down Vega a more unusual narrative foundation.
RGB: Execution is currently in development for PC via Steam, with Top Hat Studios handling publishing duties. No release date or window has been announced.
