Netflix is bringing another major video game franchise to television, with PUBG set to receive a live-action series led by Donald Glover. The project is in development at the streaming service, with Glover taking on multiple roles behind and in front of the camera.

Best known for his work on Atlanta and Community, Glover will write, direct, executive produce, and star in the adaptation. His brother, Stephen Glover, will also serve as a writer and executive producer. Additional executive producers include Michael Schaefer for NEON TV, Fam Udeorji for Gilga, and Taeseok Jang and Sujin Lee for KRAFTON’s entertainment subsidiary, LV3H.

Originally released as PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds in 2017, PUBG helped establish the modern battle royale formula, dropping players into a large combat zone where they must scavenge for equipment and eliminate opponents while the playable area gradually shrinks. The franchise has since become one of KRAFTON’s biggest properties, making a move into scripted television another opportunity to expand its reach beyond gaming.

However, it remains to be seen how the Netflix series will translate the multiplayer shooter into a narrative-driven experience. No plot details, additional casting announcements, or release date have been revealed, leaving questions about the story Glover intends to tell and how the show will approach the franchise’s familiar battle royale premise.

The adaptation joins Netflix’s growing collection of video game projects as the company continues to explore established gaming franchises across animation and live-action productions. With Glover involved in both the creative direction and the cast, the PUBG series has a notable name attached as it begins development, although viewers will have to wait for further details before getting a clearer picture of what to expect.
