JARCORP Interactive has announced Amphibian, a new “Super2D turn-based RPG” coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Switch, and PC via Steam in 2028.

Created by JARCORP Interactive co-founders Greg Alexandropoulos and James Roumeliotis, Amphibian follows a group of frogs fighting to save their homeland during a devastating drought. As dehydration and starvation spread across the pond, Sapo and his fellow frogs must find a way to survive while battling an invading army of toads.

According to the developers, Amphibian is designed around the idea that every aspect of the game should have a clear purpose, with an emphasis on meaningful decisions and an emotional, focused adventure. Rather than relying on traditional RPG systems such as shops, economies, and endless grinding, the game puts greater emphasis on resource management and carefully designed encounters.

Players will need to closely manage their party’s health and available items, with even a single attack potentially causing persistent and serious injuries. Characters will also develop in different ways, meaning playthroughs can vary as players train their heroes while adapting to changing challenges and obstacles.

Combat will be combined with 2D and isometric exploration, along with old-school puzzles and riddles. JARCORP Interactive cites games such as Golden Sun, Fire Emblem, and Resident Evil as influences on the experience.

Amphibian will also replace traditional random encounters and level grinding with curated battles and limited side content. The developers say this approach is intended to keep the campaign moving forward while ensuring that encounters, secrets, and gameplay systems contribute directly to the overall story.

“We’re making Amphibian for RPG fans who want an emotional, impactful experience, weaved into a concise, hard-hitting, turn-based adventure,” said Alexandropoulos and Roumeliotis.
