Moon Studios has pushed back the 1.0 release of No Rest for the Wicked, with the highly anticipated action RPG now targeting March 2027 rather than its previously announced October 2026 window.
The delay applies to the PC and PlayStation 5 versions, while release timing for the Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 editions has yet to be determined. The game is currently available through Steam Early Access, where Moon Studios has continued to expand and refine the experience ahead of its full launch.
According to Moon Studios, the additional development time will be used to further polish the game, improve performance and refine several of its core systems. The studio specifically pointed to the class system as an area receiving additional attention, with the goal of ensuring that the final version reaches the quality standard the team believes No Rest for the Wicked deserves.
Rather than simply waiting for the March release, however, players will have additional opportunities to help shape the game during its final stretch of development. Moon Studios plans to hold more closed beta tests in the coming months before opening the doors to an open beta in December. The studio says these tests will give its community another chance to provide feedback as development moves toward the 1.0 launch.
Creative Director Thomas Mahler has also discussed the decision and the game’s development in a new community video, while Moon Studios intends to continue sharing behind-the-scenes information through its ongoing Wicked Inside developer diary series. These updates have become an important part of the studio’s approach to development, giving players a closer look at the decisions behind the game’s systems, content and ongoing changes.
The additional time could prove particularly useful for a game as ambitious as No Rest for the Wicked. Moon Studios is attempting to combine the deliberate combat and challenging encounters associated with soulslike games with deeper action RPG mechanics, character progression and a more persistent world. The studio has already made substantial changes to the game during Early Access, including the addition of co-op multiplayer, PvP duels and expanded combat options.
There is also some good news for players who have already supported the game or are considering picking it up before launch. Moon Studios has extended the deadline for PC players to qualify for the game’s Founders Pack from July 10 to January 1, 2027. Players who purchased No Rest for the Wicked after the original July 10 cutoff will also be retroactively granted the Founders Pack.
PlayStation 5 players will have their own opportunity to secure the bonus content when pre-orders begin in January. The Founders Pack is intended as a reward for early supporters and includes several exclusive items tied to the game’s world and Moon Studios’ history.
Among the bonuses is Spirit Cavern, a secret hideout described as a handcrafted location connecting the legacy of Moon Studios with the world of No Rest for the Wicked. Players will also receive Sayer’s Vow, a unique sword that can be discovered and extracted from a stone in the game world, along with a special Founders Tag identifying them as early adopters.
Founders will also receive access to an exclusive Public Beta Test Realm, which will remain available even after the game’s eventual 1.0 launch. This gives early supporters an additional way to experience upcoming content and contribute feedback as Moon Studios continues developing the game beyond its full release.
No Rest for the Wicked takes place on the island of Isola Sacra, where an ancient plague known as the Pestilence has begun spreading across the land amid an already volatile period of political conflict and bloodshed. Players take on the role of a Cerim, a member of a holy order possessing mysterious powers, as they attempt to confront the growing threat.
The game combines its dark fantasy setting with a distinctive painterly visual style and combat inspired by the demanding encounters of the soulslike genre. Players can acquire and craft weapons and equipment, develop their character and customize their personal homestead while progressing through Moon Studios’ larger story.
For Moon Studios, No Rest for the Wicked represents a significant departure from the Ori series that established the developer as one of the industry’s most acclaimed independent studios. Ori and the Blind Forest and Ori and the Will of the Wisps were both celebrated for their atmospheric presentation, exploration and Metroidvania-style gameplay, while No Rest for the Wicked is taking the studio into a much larger action RPG experience.
The move to March 2027 means players will have to wait several additional months before the game officially leaves Early Access, but Moon Studios appears intent on using that time to address remaining issues rather than rushing toward the previously announced October window. With additional closed testing and a December open beta now planned, players should have several more opportunities to see how the game is shaping up before the 1.0 release arrives.
For now, No Rest for the Wicked remains available in Steam Early Access, with further details about the upcoming beta tests and the game’s continued development expected from Moon Studios in the months ahead.
