With Nintendo announcing it will reveal details about its new next gen system later this fiscal year, many are looking for what details they can find on what to expect from the next system. Now, dataminer OatmealDome has discovered some intriguing information by analyzing the newly released Endless Ocean Luminous.

Endless Ocean Luminous was created using Nintendo’s internal game engine which is called Bezel, and according to OatmealDome, t Bezel has undergone some new tweaks that are apparent when examining the game’s source code. OatmealDome has stated that the latest version of the engine now allows for games to output at up to 240 frames per second, up from the previous max of 60fps on Switch., a change that  is apparently coupled with the ability to run a game with Variable Refresh Rate. Variable Refresh Rate is a display technique that lets games with varying frame rates run more smoothly.

However, it must be noted that while OatmealDome did find evidence of these changes in the engine’s code, this doesn’t mean that any games are currently taking advantage of them. If anything, this could be evidence of features coming to the Switch successor, or just leftover traces of Nintendo developers playing around.  That said, it is an interesting piece of insight int0 what might be going on with Nintendo’s tech.
