Nintendo had plenty to show off during its latest Direct, and the presentation wasted little time making it clear that the Switch 2’s upcoming lineup is getting seriously crowded. Alongside major new Nintendo adventures, the showcase delivered long-awaited RPGs, remakes, third-party ports, horror games and a surprising number of Switch 2 upgrades.
The biggest new announcement was undoubtedly Metroid Ravenous, an all-new 2D adventure starring Samus Aran. The Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive puts Samus in a dangerous new situation where she must survive against overwhelming threats, with the game’s “eat or be eaten” premise teasing a particularly aggressive take on the series. Metroid Ravenous launches January 28, 2027, with standard and special editions planned alongside new Samus and Chozo Statue amiibo.
Kirby is also heading into a new dimension, quite literally, with Kirby and the World Beyond. The upcoming 3D adventure will let players freely explore expansive environments while putting Kirby’s Copy Abilities to work in new ways. The game is scheduled for spring 2027 and will arrive as the Kirby series celebrates its 35th anniversary.
Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave is much closer to release. Set in the Dagdan Empire, the new strategy RPG revolves around the Heroic Games and will feature a story built around strength, steel and competing ambitions. It launches exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 on September 17, 2026.
Persona fans received two major announcements in one package. Persona 6 will introduce an entirely new cast and standalone supernatural adventure, once again combining daily life, social bonds and turn-based combat. Persona 4 Revival, meanwhile, revisits the Midnight Channel mystery and the investigation surrounding a series of bizarre murders. Persona 4 Revival launches for Nintendo Switch 2 on May 20, 2027, while Nintendo did not provide a release date for Persona 6 during the presentation.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation will bring the remake trilogy to its conclusion on Nintendo Switch 2. Cloud and his allies will take to the skies aboard the Highwind as they attempt to stop Sephiroth and Meteor, with the game scheduled to launch on April 8, 2027.
The Direct also brought a substantial collection of upgraded and expanded games. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity – Definitive Edition arrives February 25, 2027, adding improved visuals and frame rate, more enemies on screen, all Expansion Pass content and a new Calamity Mode. Existing Switch players will be able to transfer their save data and purchase the Switch 2 version at a discount.
Pikmin 4 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy launches November 12, adding voice commands for Oatchi and the new Dandori Academy mode. The academy will eventually feature 72 stages, online leaderboards, medals and multiple difficulty levels.
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition follows on December 3, bringing new challenges through Heroes’ Vault and introducing Shimmer as a new Hero. Existing Switch owners will also be able to purchase an upgrade pack.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered arrives September 29 with visual, performance and gameplay improvements, including gyro aiming, touchscreen support and Joy-Con 2 mouse controls. Best of all, owners of the existing Switch version can upgrade to the Switch 2 edition for free. A new paid expansion, Songs of the Past, is also planned for 2027.
Nintendo Switch Sports Resort takes Wuhu Island beyond its traditional sports activities when it launches exclusively for Switch 2 on October 22. Players can explore the island, discover hidden areas, collect Spocco Photos and compete in the new offline Island Crown mode.
Mario Kart World is also getting a free update later today. Ten classic courses from Super Mario Kart will become standalone VS Race tracks, including Choco Island, Vanilla Lake and Ghost Valley. The update also adds two Knockout Tour routes and Spectator Mode.
Star Fox is receiving a free update on September 29 that expands its Battle Mode to four-player local play and adds three new stages. Meanwhile, Star Fox Adventures joins the Nintendo GameCube – Nintendo Classics library later today for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers.
Third-party support was just as extensive. Monster Hunter Wilds arrives on Nintendo Switch 2 December 4, bringing all previously released Title Update content with it, including Mizutsune, Lagiacrus, the Grand Hub and the Final Fantasy XIV collaboration. Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance will follow as a major expansion in 2027.
Resident Evil is getting three releases on October 16, with Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition, Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition all coming to Switch 2. Each uses Capcom’s RE ENGINE technology, while the first and third games include additional content from their original releases.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis will reimagine Lara Croft’s original 1996 adventure from the ground up. Lara’s globe-trotting search for the Scion will take her through Peru, Greece and Egypt when the game launches February 12, 2027.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance II Royal Edition is also coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027. The package includes the base game, its premium story expansions, exclusive gear and a bonus questline.
Crisis Core – Final Fantasy VII – Reunion is available on Nintendo Switch 2 later today, September 9, with upgraded character models, interface and environments, fully voiced English and Japanese dialogue, updated action combat and a newly arranged soundtrack.
Danganronpa 2×2 launches January 14, 2027, combining an enhanced version of Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair with an entirely new story featuring the same setting and characters. Players will face new victims, culprits and mysteries before taking them on in the series’ trademark Class Trials.
Disney Dreamlight Valley: The Keepsake Sea arrives this November, taking players beneath the waves for a new adventure featuring characters including Milo Thatch from Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Jack Sparrow and Megara.
Eternal Anima launches March 4, 2027, and follows peacekeeper Wade through a time-spanning adventure where he must uncover a world that has deliberately erased its own history. Its turn-based combat incorporates Wade’s Psychometry powers and inherited abilities from previous generations.
FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves launches digitally on October 22, with a physical edition following in January 2027. The Switch 2 Starter Edition includes Tokyo Revengers characters Mikey and Draken as playable guests alongside previously released DLC fighters.
MECCHA CHAMELEON arrives later today as a competitive multiplayer game built around drawing and hide-and-seek. Players camouflage themselves against walls, furniture and decorations while another team attempts to track them down, with support for up to 12 players online.
Mega Man: Dual Override launches for both Switch 2 and Switch in spring 2027. Proto Man joins Mega Man as a playable character, with each hero offering a different fighting style and access to customizable Custom Chips.
METAL SLUG ULTIMATE COLLECTION will celebrate 30 years of the run-and-gun franchise with 10 classic games, online multiplayer, leaderboards, artwork, music and an expanded Combat School. The collection will also include the previously unavailable location test version of METAL SLUG. It is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 and Switch in 2027.
Ondeh Ondeh Kaya’s Tasty Tale is a 3D adventure platformer built around music-based puzzles, with Kaya exploring the magical world of Selera while battling enemies and uncovering a story inspired by Southeast Asian cultures. It is planned for Switch 2 in 2027.
Bloober Team is heading to Switch 2 with Onyx: The Dark Grip, a 2.5D supernatural horror game planned for 2027. Players control a mysterious Entity that manipulates a lone traveller in a haunted ghost town, using supernatural abilities to influence the environment and survive its horrors.
Pokémon Pokopia’s second Expansion Pass part adds new fashion options and accessories, including sunglasses, ribbons and bow ties for players and Pokémon alike. It is planned for later this year.
Professor Layton and the New World of Steam brings Layton and Luke back for another mystery on December 10. The pair will travel to the rapidly developing American town of Steam Bison, where mysterious incidents await investigation.
Romancing SaGa 3: Destinies United launches February 16, 2027, reimagining the 1995 RPG as a full 3D remake with modern visuals, voice acting and newly arranged music. Players can choose between eight protagonists and shape their own adventure through a free-form quest structure.
Stage Fright comes from the creators of Overcooked! and focuses entirely on cooperative play. Two players will explore escape rooms and attempt to solve an ancient mystery together when the game launches in 2027.
Yo-kai Watch 2: Haunted Domain is coming to Switch 2 with enhanced graphics and new content, expanding on the original Yo-kai Watch 2 games. Nate will once again befriend Yo-kai while investigating new mysteries, though Nintendo has not yet announced a release date.
Yu-Gi-Oh! TAG FORCE GX brings Yu-Gi-Oh! GX TAG FORCE 3 back with modern visuals, improved dueling and cards inspired by the GX anime era. It launches for Switch 2 and Switch on February 16, 2027, with physical editions including three Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game cards.
The Direct’s rapid-fire montage added even more to the Switch 2 lineup. 007 First Light will explore James Bond’s early years when it arrives in 2026, while THE ASCENT ULTIMATE EDITION brings its cyberpunk action RPG to Switch 2 in December with all DLC included.
The Apothecary Diaries: The False Imperial Brother is coming to Switch 2 and Switch in early 2027, putting Maomao at the centre of another mystery. Bluey’s Happy Snaps follows on October 15 with a photo-focused adventure featuring Bluey and Bingo.
The Crew Motorfest arrives October 8, bringing more than 800 vehicles and the Hawaiian archipelago to Switch 2. DRAGON QUEST HEROES: Torneko’s Mystery Dungeon -Classic HD- is available later today, while DRAGON QUEST MONSTERS: The Withered World gets a new demo later today ahead of its full release on December 3.
Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream launches December 3 with new touch and Joy-Con 2 mouse controls. Fading Echo follows September 17, with a demo also available later today.
FARCRY 3 Blood Dragon – Classic Edition and FARCRY 3 Classic Edition are both planned for spring 2027. The former delivers the neon-soaked standalone shooter, while the latter brings the full tropical open-world adventure starring Jason Brody.
Hela: of Mice & Magic arrives December 1, offering a cooperative-friendly open-world adventure inspired by Nordic folklore. Hell Is Us follows October 8, challenging players to explore a war-torn country without maps, compasses or traditional quest markers.
HOT WHEELS Infinite Rush speeds onto Switch 2 September 10, with four themed islands packed with races, stunts and collectibles. House Flipper 2 follows October 15, bringing its renovation and building gameplay to Switch 2 with the Sakura DLC and two-to-four-player online co-op.
It Takes Two launches October 15 with enhanced visuals, cross-platform online play and GameShare support. Existing Switch owners will also receive the Switch 2 upgrade for free.
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Encore Edition arrives November 5 with Switch 2 enhancements and a new set of 1980s glam-rock-inspired outfits.
Palia – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition arrives in December with improved performance, richer visuals, new Echo Expeditions and Joy-Con 2 mouse controls.
SONIC PICO PARK brings Sonic and friends into the cooperative puzzle formula on November 12, supporting two to eight players locally or online.
Finally, Stellar Blade Complete Edition launches November 5. The Switch 2 version includes NieR:Automata and GODDESS OF VICTORY: NIKKE collaboration content, newly revealed Bayonetta costumes and Joy-Con 2 motion controls for selected activities such as fishing.
Taken together, this was a remarkably broad showing for Nintendo. The Direct wasn’t built around a single blockbuster announcement, but instead used Metroid Ravenous, Kirby and the World Beyond, Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, Persona 6, Final Fantasy VII Revelation and a huge collection of third-party games to flesh out what is becoming an increasingly packed Switch 2 library.
For anyone still waiting for Nintendo’s new hardware to build a must-play library of its own, there is now considerably less waiting to do.
