NEXON has officially revealed the title of its upcoming anime-style game previously known as Project RX. The game is now officially titled FAREIDOLIA, and the first playable demo will be available at Tokyo Game Show 2026 from September 17 to 21.

Developed by NEXON Games’ IO DIVISION, the team behind Blue Archive, FAREIDOLIA is being built around an immersive story, character interactions and a variety of lifestyle-focused content. The game is being developed using Unreal Engine 5, with the technology being used to deliver detailed 3D characters, everyday environments and dynamic battles.

NEXON describes FAREIDOLIA as a game about discovering something familiar in a world that is similar to our own, but still distinctly different.

Welcome To Anima City

FAREIDOLIA takes place in Anima City, a town located in a world that closely resembles Earth. Players take on the role of the director of the Anima City Restoration Center while also serving as the head of Tasogare Hall, the office building associated with the center.

As part of their duties, players will live alongside a group of girls known as “Mates.” Each Mate possesses unique abilities, and players will work with them to resolve the various problems occurring throughout Anima City.

The game’s title is intended to reflect its central concept of finding familiar things within an unfamiliar world while forming new connections along the way.

“FAREIDOLIA is set in Anima City, a world that resembles our own yet feels subtly different,” said Minseo Cha, Director of FAREIDOLIA. “We wanted to capture the story of discovering familiarity within that new world while forming bonds along the way, which led us to the title FAREIDOLIA.”

The team also wants players to feel a genuine sense of closeness with the Mates, with their interactions playing an important role in the game’s overall experience.

Meet The Mates

NEXON has introduced four of the characters players will encounter in FAREIDOLIA, each with their own distinct personalities.

  • Minieh is an energetic explorer who lives for the “ultimate adventure.” She comes from an explorer guild and possesses extensive knowledge, making her a reliable companion when investigating the secrets of Anima City. However, her enthusiasm for adventure can cause her to charge ahead without thinking.
  • Ohana is a self-proclaimed genius all-rounder. Despite maintaining an expressionless and mysterious appearance, she possesses extraordinary talent in almost everything she attempts. Rather than putting those abilities to practical use, however, Ohana prefers using them for mischief and entertainment.
  • Shami is a cat-eared girl who is constantly short on money. Despite being prone to misfortune, she refuses to give up and continues to push forward. Much of her money is spent on protective charms, leaving her perpetually broke, although she somehow always finds time to keep up with her favourite idol programs.
  • Elevator Girl is a mysterious girl responsible for operating the elevator at Tasogare Hall.

These characters will also play a role in NEXON’s Tokyo Game Show presentation, where the company’s booth will recreate Tasogare Hall for visitors.

FAREIDOLIA Comes To Tokyo Game Show 2026

FAREIDOLIA will make its first playable appearance at Tokyo Game Show 2026, which takes place at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan, from September 17 to 21.

The game will be featured at the NEXON booth in Hall 7-C04. The FAREIDOLIA section of the booth will recreate Tasogare Hall, allowing attendees to step into one of the game’s central locations.

Minieh, Ohana, Shami and Elevator Girl will also be represented at the booth, where visitors can take part in several activities.

The main attraction will be a playable demo, giving attendees their first opportunity to experience FAREIDOLIA ahead of its eventual release. Visitors will also be able to participate in a rock-paper-scissors mini-game against their favourite character.

NEXON will also offer several event-exclusive rewards during the show:

  • Visitors to the booth will receive an A4 FAREIDOLIA clear file.
  • Players who complete the demo and social media missions can receive an original cooling towel and a large 15cm pin button.
  • Visitors who add NEXON’s official LINE account will receive an original FAREIDOLIA sticker.

The company has also confirmed that a new trailer for FAREIDOLIA will debut on September 17 alongside the game’s Tokyo Game Show appearance.

For now, NEXON has not announced a release date for FAREIDOLIA. More information about the game is expected as development continues, with Tokyo Game Show 2026 providing the first opportunity for players to get hands-on with the new title.

With IO DIVISION bringing its experience from Blue Archive to a new 3D project built around character interactions, daily life and dynamic combat, FAREIDOLIA is shaping up to be an interesting new project for fans of anime-style games.
