Funcom has revealed seven minutes of new PlayStation 5 gameplay for Dune: Awakening during Gamescom 2026, giving players their first extended look at how the open-world survival game performs on console. The studio also confirmed that PC and console cross-play is in development for a post-launch release.
The PlayStation 5 footage showcases the game’s visuals, combat, exploration, and overall performance, with the gameplay captured on a PlayStation 5 Pro. Players will be able to choose between two graphics modes on both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro, with Performance Mode targeting 60 frames per second at Dynamic 4K and Quality Mode running at 30 frames per second at Dynamic 4K.
PlayStation 5 Pro players will also benefit from a higher native resolution in both modes, along with enhanced visuals when playing in Quality Mode.
Cross-play was another major announcement from Funcom, following strong demand from the Dune: Awakening community. The feature will allow PC and console players to play together, although Funcom has not yet announced when it will be added. The studio says more details will be shared once it has a release date to announce.
Funcom also announced Filmic Archive, a new DLC pack featuring outfits and other content inspired by Denis Villeneuve’s Dune films. It will include iconic looks from Dune: Part One and Dune: Part Two, along with new Sardaukar-themed armour and base-building pieces.
Among the outfits included are the Aegis of the Unwalked Path armour, inspired by Paul Atreides’ visions of Fremen holy warriors in Dune: Part One, and the Caladan Stormcoat worn by Paul and Duke Leto. The DLC will also add a 73-piece base-building set inspired by the feared Sardaukar.
Filmic Archive will be available for $9.99, with a full reveal trailer scheduled to debut during the upcoming Xbox Broadcast.
Dune: Awakening originally launched on PC in June 2025 and is based on Frank Herbert’s Dune, as well as the film adaptations from Legendary Entertainment and Denis Villeneuve. The upcoming console release will introduce more than just a new platform, with Funcom also adding a full single-player mode, the conclusion to the game’s story, expanded customization options, adjustable difficulty settings, and a year’s worth of PC updates and improvements.
“September marks a major milestone for Dune: Awakening,” said Scott Junior, Chief Product Officer and Executive Producer on Dune: Awakening. “Not only is the game coming to PlayStation 5 and XBOX; this release is also a major step forward for the game as we introduce a full single-player mode, wrap the story, and add an incredible amount of game customization allowing players to fully scale difficulty levels. There is also a year worth of PC additions and enhancements available Day One on console.”
A physical PlayStation 5 edition will also be available alongside the digital release. Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe is handling retail distribution across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Australia, and New Zealand, while Solutions 2 GO Inc. will distribute the physical edition across North and South America. In Japan, Spike Chunsoft will publish both the digital and retail versions, with that release scheduled for October 29.
Dune: Awakening will also be available through Xbox Game Pass when the console version launches. Players who purchase the Deluxe or Ultimate Edition can begin playing five days early, starting September 17.
The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of Dune: Awakening launch September 22.
