Dwerve developer Half Human Games has announced Myths from the Maw, a dark cosmic fantasy tactical RPG that puts players in command of a mercenary band exploring a nightmarish abyss. Inspired by Dante’s Inferno, the game combines turn-based tactical combat with roguelike elements and a corruption system that allows the sins of your warriors to influence their behaviour. Myths from the Maw is in development for PC via Steam, with a Kickstarter campaign planned for 2027.

“Myths from the Maw is basically our love letter to Dante’s Inferno,” said Half Human Games founder Percy Legendre IV. The developer also highlighted the importance of morality in the game, where every decision comes with a cost and its consequences follow players throughout their expeditions.

Set within a colossal, spacefallen fortress known as the Maw, the game tasks players with battling rival warbands and eldritch horrors while bargaining with alien gods for greater power. These blood sacrifices offer a means of strengthening mercenaries, but they also contribute to the corruption that threatens to undermine the entire group.

Corruption can accumulate through combat, blood sacrifices, narrative decisions, and failed checks. As mercenaries become more corrupted, they develop sinful traits that affect their actions both on and off the battlefield. Greedy warriors may steal supplies, prideful ones can disobey orders, and hopeless mercenaries may flee from combat. Some may even abandon the expedition to join the Cult of the Maw.

Combat places an emphasis on positioning and battlefield control, with each skill featuring its own area-of-effect pattern. Players can use movement-based attacks such as Dashing Slash and Leaping Smash to reposition their fighters, while knockbacks, pulls, and immobilizing effects offer additional ways to manipulate enemy formations. With permanent death among the stakes, a poorly planned encounter could cost players more than just a victory.

Myths from the Maw will also feature 12 races and 20 classes, including Shadow Knight, Sword Dancer, and Witch Hunter, alongside equipment-driven character customization, procedurally generated dungeons, and randomized loot and abilities. These roguelike systems are designed to encourage experimentation and replayability, though keeping a mercenary band intact may prove just as challenging as surviving the horrors lurking within the Maw.

Myths from the Maw is in development for PC via Steam. Its Kickstarter campaign is scheduled to launch in 2027.
