TAITO is bringing two beloved 1990s JRPGs back into the spotlight with Lufia I & II: The Sinistrals Saga, a new collection headed to PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam in 2027. Clear River Games will publish the collection in the West.
The collection brings together Lufia & the Fortress of Doom and Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals, giving players a chance to revisit the two games that helped establish Lufia as a memorable name among 1990s JRPGs.
According to the collection’s Steam page, both games have been “lovingly” ported and enhanced for modern play. While TAITO has not yet detailed the specific enhancements coming to either title, the collection will allow both RPGs to return on modern hardware while preserving their original stories and soundtracks.
Lufia & the Fortress of Doom serves as the first entry in the collection, following a young man who is descended from a legendary hero alongside a young woman carrying the weight of destiny. The game originally introduced players to the world and its battle against the Sinistrals.
Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals takes the story in a different direction as a prequel, focusing on Maxim, a young man who will eventually become the hero of legend, and his companions as they are drawn into a battle against destiny. The prequel has long been remembered alongside its predecessor for its story, characters, puzzles, and soundtrack.
Lufia I & II: The Sinistrals Saga will give both games a new opportunity to reach players who may have missed them during their original 1990s releases, while also providing longtime fans with a modern way to revisit the pair.
The collection is currently scheduled to launch in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. Clear River Games will handle the western release.
