LEVEL-5 has announced that Holy Horror Mansion will launch for PlayStation 5, Switch, and PC via Steam in 2027. The supernatural adventure will also be playable at Tokyo Game Show 2026, which takes place from September 17 to 21 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan.
The latest look at the game came during the LEVEL-5 Vision 2026 II Dream broadcast, where LEVEL-5 CEO Akihiro Hino showcased its unusually interactive world. According to Hino, almost everything in Holy Horror Mansion can be interacted with in some way, with objects capable of becoming Mononoke, being transformed into environmental tools, or even turning into full-fledged dungeons.
Players take on the role of Cameron, who can use a camera to photograph objects with strong souls and bring them to life as Mononoke. These ghostly creatures can then be befriended and recruited, while certain Mononoke will only appear under specific conditions. Soul Keys can also be used to uncover new creatures, encouraging players to thoroughly explore their surroundings.
The environment itself is another major part of the adventure. Through a process LEVEL-5 calls “Playgroundification,” objects such as parasols and hedges can be transformed into things like trampolines, creating new ways to navigate the town. Some photographed objects can take the idea even further by becoming dungeons, with Hino demonstrating one particularly bizarre example in which the characters found themselves exploring the inside of a cake.
These dungeons feature their own secrets, including treasure chests and items to collect, while the town changes considerably once night falls. The darker atmosphere also brings dangerous encounters and boss battles, with combat set to energetic dance music. Players will command their Mononoke allies using cards while making use of their various special moves.
The adventure will ultimately see Cameron and the Mononoke take on De Ville Corp, an evil company that appears to be at the centre of the game’s conflict. LEVEL-5 says that virtually anything in the world can lead to a new adventure or become a source of power in battle.
Holy Horror Mansion is also being developed as a cross-media project, with LEVEL-5 planning a major range of toys and other merchandise. A dedicated cross-media presentation will be held at a later date. Hino explained that the presentation, originally planned for earlier in 2026, was delayed so the company could get the products and timing right.
The story follows a young hero living in a mansion atop an apartment building owned by his grandmother. After discovering a camera in a locked room and encountering a ghost, he becomes caught up in a strange series of events.
Beyond photographing objects to create Mononoke, players will be able to use blueprints to combine smaller items into Fusion Mononoke. Not every Mononoke will be friendly, either, and players will need to use cards to command their allies and outsmart hostile creatures in battle.
