Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival is bringing its twisted take on the iconic horror franchise to Nintendo Switch 2 next month, and fans worried that the game might be toned down for Nintendo’s console can apparently put those concerns to rest.
Saber Interactive has confirmed that the Switch 2 version of Hellraiser: Revival will not be censored in any way, meaning the game’s particularly brutal approach to gore, violence and mature themes will remain intact when it arrives on Nintendo’s system. The news should come as little surprise considering how closely the developers have emphasized staying true to Clive Barker’s original vision throughout development.
The team has previously stated that it is strongly against censoring the game, with the developers explaining that they had already secured ESRB and PEGI ratings without compromising the content. That approach appears to carry over to the Switch 2 release, despite the console version potentially putting the game in front of an audience that might not normally associate Nintendo hardware with this kind of extreme horror.
Hellraiser: Revival is being developed with Barker’s involvement and also features Doug Bradley returning as Pinhead. The game takes inspiration particularly from the first two Hellraiser films and Barker’s The Hellbound Heart, while telling a new story centered around Aidan, his girlfriend Sunny and the mysterious Genesis Configuration.
The result is shaping up to be considerably more than a typical licensed horror game, with the developers seemingly determined to embrace the uncomfortable combination of violence, sexuality, torture and surreal horror that has always been part of Hellraiser’s identity. The game’s official content description includes strong violence, gore, torture, consensual mutilation and non-explicit consensual sex, among other mature themes.
The Switch 2 version was confirmed last month and will launch alongside the other console and PC versions on October 8, 2026. Nintendo’s system will also receive a Deluxe Edition containing additional weapons and cosmetic items, a digital art book, soundtrack, novella and an ’80s horror movie filter.
For Hellraiser fans who were wondering whether the series’ more extreme material would survive the transition to Switch 2, it sounds like the Cenobites will be arriving exactly as intended.
