Gun Gun Pixies is a third person shooter that has a heavy emphasis on lewd content. Because of this, there is a story, but the story doesn’t really make a whole lot of sense. Essentially the story in a nutshell is that you play as two alien pixies. They have been tasked with observing humans and helping them deal with their problems.

Kame-pon and Bee-tan are the alien pixies you can play as and together you must help the college girls you’re tasked with observing navigate issues like eating disorders, and other issues, as well as navigating friendships among the dorm inhabitants.

So while there is a story to a degree, it’s kind of all over the place and doesn’t make much sense. Then again, do you really play third person shooters for the story? Well maybe you do and if you’re someone that does, you might want to look at other third person shooters.

Once you pick to play as Kame-pon or Bee-tan and pick a mission, you find yourself in one of the rooms of the girls dorm. Your objectives in each mission range from locating a specific item, getting to a specific location, or making the girl you’re observing happy.

The means by which you make the girls happy is by shooting them with happy bullets, yeah, that is really what they are called. The more you shoot them, the happier they become. Each girl has a specific weak spot that you must shoot to help the girls reach their maximum happiness. The weak points could be in their hands, legs, head, or other…more private areas.

Once you get the girls to reach their maximum happiness level, find the specific item, or get to a specific point in the room, your mission will end and you can move on to the next one.

Between missions you can visit a shop that can be used to purchase new weapons and costumes for the pixies to wear. Once you complete a mission, you’re given a stats screen that tells you how well you did and how many coins you earned. The coins are what are used to purchase the weapons and costumes at the shop.

Where the game truly struggles is with its mechanics; specifically the camera control. When searching for items and even shooting, the camera control is not the best. It feels both stiff to control and yet moves way too fast which makes you move the camera back and forth constantly trying to fixate on a specific item, hit point location on one of the girls, or an area of the room you’re in.

The other area the game struggles in is with the jumping. These pixies jump like they’re light as a feather, because I suppose they are. But while they jump like their light, they come down heavier than they should and it makes it really hard to land on specific platforms when you’re trying to reach higher places such as a bed or a table. As a result, you can’t really control them in the air as they come down from the jump.

Now I mentioned that aiming can be an issue with the camera, which is true, but only really when you’re using the scope to determine the weak points or the amount of damage an area on the girl you’re observing has taken. If you’re just aiming to shoot at a specific area, the shooting is just fine.

In fact the shooting in general is what makes the game really good. I mean despite the subject matter and where you have to shoot these girls to make them happy, Gun Gun Pixies is a solid third person shooter. The weapons all feel good and are fun to use.

Graphically Gun Gun Pixies looks pretty good. This game was originally released on the Playstation Vita and so it’s not the most impressive game when it comes to graphics, but still looks good. The 3D environments have a lot of detail to them and really work to give you a sense of just how small you are. The pixie girl models and the human models all look pretty good, with nice details to them.

As much as I would have liked to see the environments have a bit more detail to them and less pixelation, I don’t think it could have allowed the game to run as smoothly as it does. The game seems to run at a solid 60FPS or at least close to it, though I don’t have an FPS counter to confirm this; it feels and looks like it runs close to or at a solid 60FPS.

Performance wise, there isn’t more to say. I mean it runs at 60FPS or near it at least. The only other thing I will mention about the game is the load times. When you’re starting a failed mission over again or going into a mission, the load times are much longer than I would have expected for a Vita game that has been ported to the Switch. The load times are anywhere from 45 seconds to a full minute.

This really breaks up the action and I would have much rather have the game be more optimized and have taken a performance hit if it meant we could have gotten the load times to be cut down a bit.

Sound in Gun Gun Pixies…well the game definitely has sound. Because this game has a heavy focus on lewd content, there are plenty of sounds coming from the girls and the pixies themselves when it comes to shooting and being shot with happy bullets.

Aside from the sounds the girls make throughout each mission, you have the music. The music in the game isn’t memorable at all. It’s almost like it’s generic sounding anime music or something. Like they had to just put something in the game just so an attempt was made to not have just have the sounds the girls made be the only thing the player hears.

I feel like the music in this game was an after thought really. Like oh yeah, we’re making a video game that is a third person shooter, we have to have music of some kind in it. While I appreciate that there is music in this game, I would have liked for it to be memorable. Or at the very least have some variation to it. Instead all of the music is generic sounding and just kind of there.

Gun Gun Pixies is a good third person shooter. If you can get past the lewd nature of the game, the stiff camera controls, the lead feather jumping mechanics, and the constant happy noises throughout, this is a really solid shooter.

Should you want to pick up this game, I would suggest not playing it in front of family, friends, or even in public. Unless of course you don’t care what people think and if that’s the case, more power to you. In short, yes I would recommend picking this game up if you’re looking for a good third person shooter; or if you’re into lewd content.
