Fans of Gothic looking to return to the Colony have a new way to do so, although this time they will have to leave their console or PC behind. Gothic – A Shadow’s Quest, the official board game based on the influential RPG, has officially launched its Gamefound campaign, bringing the Old Camp and its dangerous inhabitants to the tabletop.
In Gothic – A Shadow’s Quest, players take on the role of either a Shadow or a Fire Mage Novice from the Old Camp as they attempt to make a name for themselves within the Colony. The game can be played solo or cooperatively with up to four players, while an optional Game Master can take control of the experience for groups looking for a more traditional tabletop adventure.
Character development is also designed to give players plenty of freedom. Players can specialize in sword combat, master magic or attack enemies from a distance with a bow, while their choices throughout the campaign can have an impact on how the game world develops. Risky quests and dangerous enemies are waiting, with the campaign built around the idea that player decisions can actually change the world around them.
Several editions are available through the campaign, starting with the €80 Standard Edition, which is designed to provide the full game at a more accessible price. The €110 Deluxe Edition includes upgraded acrylic figures and improved inserts, while the €199 Ultimate Edition adds the complete Miniature Pack containing 107 figures representing heroes, monsters and bosses.
For those who want the complete package, the €249 All-In Edition includes the Ultimate Edition alongside the available add-ons, including a dice tray, 10 exclusive dice and more. The 107-figure Miniature Pack is also available separately for €110, giving collectors and miniature painters the option to pick it up independently of the main game.
The Gamefound campaign will run until October 23, 2026 at 15:00 CEST, and there is an important catch for anyone interested in adding the game to their collection. Gothic – A Shadow’s Quest will only be available through Gamefound and is not planned for retail release, making the crowdfunding campaign the only way to obtain the official board game.
Gothic – A Shadow’s Quest is being developed by THQ Nordic’s Board Game division, the team behind Darksiders – The Forbidden Land. The project has also received creative input from the developers working on Gothic 1 Remake, with the goal of bringing the atmosphere and feel of the video game to the tabletop.
For Gothic fans, the Old Camp is opening its gates once again, but this time there is no need to commit a crime to get inside. You just need to decide which edition you want before the Gamefound campaign comes to an end.
