Capcom has pulled back the curtain on more of what awaits players in Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, with a new gameplay overview showing off the frozen region of Norgan and its dangerous Relic Expedition system.
Launching October 9, the expansion will send the Arisen into a harsh new area filled with ancient ruins, powerful monsters and valuable relics. Getting those rewards won’t be as simple as defeating a few enemies, though. Players will need to prepare carefully before each expedition and decide how far they are willing to push their luck once they leave the safety of the Norgandian Settlement.
Norgan was once a prosperous region, but an ancient war has left much of it frozen and abandoned. The Norgandian Settlement now stands as one of the last remaining safe areas, giving players a place to stock up on supplies, upgrade their equipment and rest before heading back into the wilderness.
Once an expedition begins, things can get dangerous very quickly.
The Beorcan warriors are among the enemies guarding the region, attacking anyone who gets too close to their firepits. The Norgan Giant presents an even greater threat, with the ability to freeze enemies in place with a single breath.
Then there are monsters such as Fimbl, an ice dragon that can be particularly dangerous to take on but offers the potential for some impressive rewards. Powerful enemies aren’t the only way to find valuable relics, however, as the frozen wastes are packed with abandoned settlements, caves and other locations worth investigating.
Players can also enlist the help of Freki, a direwolf living in the Norgandian Settlement that can point the Arisen toward potential spoils. There is a catch, however, as Freki’s assistance comes at a price.
Finding a relic is only the first step. The items need to be appraised by Jiera, the matron of the Norgandian Settlement, before their true potential can be revealed.
Two relics that initially appear similar can ultimately turn out to be very different. Appraised weapons and armor can receive stronger stats based on the rarity of the relic, while some equipment can unlock new abilities or improve skills already available to the Arisen and their Pawn.
That gives the Relic Expedition system a little more bite than simply searching for stronger equipment. Every trip into Norgan could potentially uncover something useful, while the uncertainty surrounding each relic gives players another reason to keep exploring.
Capcom is also giving Dragon’s Dogma 2 players something to do before the expansion arrives. A free title update is now available, adding framerate improvements, additional save slots and more flexibility when assigning weapon skills in combat.
The update should make returning to the game a little more appealing for anyone who hasn’t played in a while, while also giving longtime players some new improvements to work with before heading into Norgan.
Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen will release on October 9, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam. The expansion will be sold separately for $29.99.
Capcom will also release a complete edition containing Dragon’s Dogma 2 and the Dark Arisen expansion for $49.99. This version will launch on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam on the same day, marking the first time Dragon’s Dogma 2 comes to Nintendo’s new console.
Pre-ordering the complete edition will also get players the Norgan Fashion Set – Northern Attire, which can be claimed from in-game storage once the game launches.
With Norgan offering a combination of dangerous expeditions, powerful enemies, hidden locations and unpredictable relic rewards, Dark Arisen looks set to give Dragon’s Dogma 2 players a substantial new reason to return to the game. The frozen wilderness opens its doors on October 9.
