Dark Messiah of Might & Magic: Community Edition is bringing the cult-classic fantasy action RPG back to Steam in 2026, with a substantial overhaul built around new gameplay modes, expanded multiplayer, and community-created content. Developed by wiltOS Technologies alongside Arkane Studios and Kuju Entertainment, the project aims to bring together the original Dark Messiah of Might & Magic and its console spin-off, Dark Messiah of Might & Magic Elements, into a unified experience.

Built on Valve’s latest Source engine, the Community Edition introduces full 64-bit support for Windows and Linux, updated rendering with cascaded shadow maps, and significantly expanded level limits. The project also restores cut content while adding quality-of-life improvements, including controller support and Steam achievements. However, one of its biggest changes is the renewed multiplayer component, which uses Steamworks for hosting and peer-to-peer connections while incorporating console-exclusive maps and modes.

The Community Edition will also introduce a new co-operative mode, allowing players to experience the original campaign and additional adventures alongside friends. Those looking for a different challenge can take on The Trials of Kha-Baleth, an endless fight for survival, while relics and challenge runes will provide additional ways to modify both the single-player campaign and co-op experience.

Several familiar community creations are also returning as official integrations, including New Game+. The developers are expanding the existing Bonus Levels and Challenges through a new Adventure Mode framework, while additional gameplay mechanics such as sliding, new spells, weapons, and transformations will provide more ways to approach combat.

One of the more interesting aspects of the project is how it intends to bring its single-player and multiplayer components together. The developers state that content available in one mode will be accessible in the other, creating a more unified experience rather than separating the game’s various features. This also extends to the community’s ability to develop and share new content.

Dark Messiah of Might & Magic: Community Edition is being designed with modding in mind, with players invited to help develop the game alongside its creators. Valve’s VScript will allow users to create custom armor, weapons, enemies, classes, skill trees, and game modes, while an expanded MapAdd system and in-game toolset will make it possible to build new experiences using existing levels.

The project will also introduce DunGen, a technology that allows players to create tailored or randomly generated levels to challenge their friends. Those creations can then be shared through Steam Workshop, with the developers planning to continue adding new features based on community feedback.

Dark Messiah of Might & Magic: Community Edition is currently planned for release on Steam in 2026, although a specific launch date has not been announced. As a community-made mod, it will require ownership of the original Dark Messiah of Might & Magic, though the project is being positioned as a substantial expansion of the original experience rather than a simple collection of fan-made additions.

With co-op, restored content, new gameplay mechanics, expanded multiplayer, and a framework built around community development, Dark Messiah of Might & Magic: Community Edition is shaping up to be an ambitious revival of one of the more distinctive fantasy action RPGs of its era. The Steam listing is now available for wishlisting, giving fans of Arkane’s classic another reason to revisit the world of Might & Magic when the project arrives next year.
