eastasiasoft has announced that BIRDCAGE, the vertical-scrolling shoot ’em up from POLYGON BIRD, will launch digitally on September 23 for Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC.
The release date announcement comes alongside a new gameplay trailer, offering another look at the arcade-inspired shooter ahead of its launch.
Previously showcased at Tokyo Game Show 2025, BIRDCAGE combines the bullet hell action associated with classic ’90s shoot ’em ups with a narrative-driven presentation. Players will be able to switch between spread shots and focused attacks while also using rechargeable special attacks and the melee-based Hyperblade mode.
The game features six stages, with players encouraged to maintain attack chains and kill rates while fighting through enemy formations and screen-filling bosses. Its presentation combines 2D pixel art sprites with 2.5D environments and a retro-inspired soundtrack, while dialogue, event cutscenes and memories contribute to its narrative.
BIRDCAGE is being developed by POLYGON BIRD in cooperation with eastasiasoft, which is handling the worldwide console publishing and ports.
The digital release will cost US$14.99/€14.99, with a 10% launch discount available for a limited time on select platforms and in select regions.
A physical edition for PS5 is also in the works. Physical pre-orders are currently open through the eastasiasoft store, with copies expected to begin shipping from the publisher and participating distribution partners in March 2027.
