Phantasy Star Online 2 has been a hit but fans have long wanted to see a return of the classic Phantasy Star games, and it turns out that Yasushi Yamaguchi might have some ideas for how to do it. Yamaguchi worked as a designer on many SEGA games, also credited under the name Judy Toyota, most famously creating the character of Miles “Tails” Prower, and also worked on the classic game Phantasy Star II.
Yamaguchi recently spoke to the Japanese publication Beep21 and shared some of the things he’d like to do if he ever got the chance to remake the second Phantasy Star adventure. he noted that game would be re-created in 3D and would have a similar look to Genshin Impact, while retaining the visual style inspired by Nobuyoshi Habara.
Yamaguchi also noted that he was frustrated with the technical limitations the team encountered when working on the Genesis/Mega Drive back in 1989 and that any remake would need to be much more cinematic, like Naughty Dog’s Uncharted games.
