One of the most memorable parts of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is not necessarily its sprawling world, elaborate combat system, or emotional story, but Queen’s Blood, the addictive card game that has become a fan favourite in its own right. While Square Enix has yet to announce plans to turn the experience into a standalone release, Final Fantasy VII Remake series director Naoki Hamaguchi is open to the possibility once the trilogy reaches its conclusion.

In an interview with French YouTuber Mistermv, Hamaguchi discussed the possibility of giving Queen’s Blood a life beyond the Final Fantasy VII Remake series. The director explained that the team has received considerable interest from players and members of the media who would like to see the card game released independently, but that development resources have remained focused on completing the larger project.

Hamaguchi explained that Square Enix had avoided pursuing a standalone Queen’s Blood game because the team wanted to concentrate its efforts on the final instalment of the remake trilogy. With the conclusion of the project now approaching, however, the director appears more willing to consider what could come next.

“If there are many people who really want a standalone Queen’s Blood game, I would be very open to considering it,” Hamaguchi said.

The director also suggested that a potential standalone release might not necessarily be handled by the same development team responsible for the Final Fantasy VII Remake games. Instead, the project could potentially be assigned to a smaller studio working under his supervision, allowing the team currently focused on the trilogy to move forward without being distracted by another project.

Although this is far from a formal announcement, the possibility of Queen’s Blood becoming its own game is an intriguing prospect. The card game has already established itself as one of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth’s most enjoyable diversions, offering a strategic experience that feels distinct from the rest of the RPG. A standalone release could give Square Enix an opportunity to expand its mechanics, introduce additional cards and challenges, and bring the experience to a wider audience.

For now, however, fans should not expect an announcement anytime soon. Hamaguchi made it clear that the team’s immediate priority remains the completion of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy. Whether Queen’s Blood eventually receives its own release will depend on the demand from players and what Square Enix decides to pursue after the conclusion of the project.

Still, considering the popularity of the card game, it is difficult to dismiss the possibility entirely. Queen’s Blood has already proven that it can stand out within one of Square Enix’s biggest RPGs, and a dedicated release could be the next step in turning it into a franchise of its own.
