Godzilla fans can once again unleash their favourite monsters on unsuspecting cities, as Atari, Pipeworks, and Toho International have officially launched Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered for modern platforms. The cult-classic kaiju arena fighter is now available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2 for $29.99.
Originally released in 2002, Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee is returning in a rebuilt version powered by Unreal Engine 5. Developed once again by Pipeworks, the remaster aims to bring the original’s large-scale monster battles and destructible environments to a new generation, with updated visuals, 4K performance, and online matchmaking.
Players can take control of an assortment of iconic kaiju from the Godzilla franchise, including the fan-favourite Showa-era Mechagodzilla, as they battle across fully destructible environments. Locations such as Tokyo and San Francisco become massive battlegrounds, with skyscrapers reduced to rubble and buildings turned into weapons. Each monster features its own moveset, signature special attacks, and devastating abilities, giving players plenty of ways to cause destruction while fighting for dominance.
The remaster also introduces a streamlined point-based unlock and upgrade system, alongside online matchmaking, bringing additional modern features to the original arena fighting experience.
“With the original game, we showed players what it felt like to turn an entire city into a weapon, trashing skyscrapers and hurling buildings at each other,” said Lindsay Gupton, CEO of Pipeworks. “The sense of scale and destruction was a defining part of what made Destroy All Monsters Melee so special, and we’re thrilled to be able to deliver the ultimate version of that vision.”
Atari’s Chief Creative Officer Mike Mika also discussed the significance of bringing the game back, highlighting the opportunity to reunite with Pipeworks, the original developer, and introduce the experience to a new audience.
With its return, Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered offers longtime fans another opportunity to revisit one of the franchise’s memorable video game adaptations. Its emphasis on destructible environments and monster-versus-monster combat also gives newcomers a chance to experience a different kind of fighting game, one where the surrounding city is just as much a part of the battle as the kaiju themselves.
Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered is available now for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2 for $29.99. Physical editions are available through Atari’s official store for PlayStation 5 at $29.99 USD and Nintendo Switch 2 at $39.99, with the latter being a full-cartridge release.
The Nintendo Switch digital editions will launch in Japan and select Asian markets on November 5 at 00:00 JST. No Japanese physical editions have been announced.
