The horrors lurking beneath Shiokawa are growing even more disturbing, as WORLD OF HORROR has received its largest content update yet. Dubbed AS BELOW SO ABOVE, the free expansion is available now on PC, bringing a wealth of new mysteries, enemies, characters, and events to the retro-inspired cosmic horror RPG. PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch players will have to wait until 2027 to experience the new content.
Developed by Panstasz and published by Ysbryd Games, the update expands WORLD OF HORROR by approximately 20 percent, adding new content alongside a substantial collection of quality-of-life improvements and bug fixes. Among the most notable additions are two new manifestations of the Old Gods, each bringing its own unsettling threats to the already troubled town of Shiokawa.
One of the new horrors is IKT-YOSIS, THE FIRST NIGHTMARE, an ancient entity sleeping within a gargantuan chamber beneath the mountains. Performing rituals to awaken the Old God gradually transforms the world above, bringing strange weather and further disturbances to the surrounding environment. Meanwhile, THE WAR FOR SHIOKAWA introduces a new scenario in which four cults attempt to summon their respective eldritch masters simultaneously, threatening to plunge the town into an even greater nightmare.
The update also introduces three new playable characters, including KIRIKO, a mysterious tarotist whose cards could determine Shiokawa’s fate, and SATOSHI, a young hiker familiar with the mountains surrounding the town. Their arrival provides additional ways to investigate the supernatural events unfolding throughout the game.
Another major addition is Scenario Mode, which introduces self-contained stories set before the events of the main game. These scenarios expand the game’s lore while connecting its various mysteries, giving players another reason to return to WORLD OF HORROR. The FOREST OF FEAR / TAPES OF TRAGEDY scenario introduces MAKOTO, an ambitious member of the school’s audiovisual club who sets out to document the forest’s oldest legend.
For players interested in creating their own horrors, AS BELOW SO ABOVE also expands the game’s modding capabilities through Steam Workshop. Modders can now create their own enemies, events, and mysteries, with additional customization options providing more opportunities to develop unsettling new experiences.
WORLD OF HORROR is available now for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam, GOG, and itch.io. The AS BELOW SO ABOVE update is currently available on PC, with its free release on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch planned for 2027.
