Devolver Digital’s Look Outside has brought its unsettling brand of survival horror to consoles, giving PlayStation and Nintendo Switch owners the opportunity to experience one of last year’s more unusual horror RPGs. Originally released on PC in 2025, the game is now available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2 for $9.99.
Developed by Francis Coulombe, Look Outside takes place inside an apartment building where something has gone horribly wrong. What begins as an ordinary residential setting quickly becomes a nightmare filled with grotesque creatures, cosmic horrors, and former neighbours who have transformed into something far more dangerous. Rather than relying on a sprawling world, the game builds its horror around a single apartment complex, making its familiar surroundings increasingly unsettling as players venture further into the unknown.
Survival requires more than simply fighting whatever lurks around the next corner. Players must explore the building in search of food, supplies, and weapons while encountering strange characters and uncovering fragments of information about the catastrophe. Resources are limited, and deciding what to bring back can make all the difference between surviving another day and becoming another victim of whatever has taken hold of the building.
The apartment also serves as a place to recover between expeditions, with opportunities to prepare meals, craft useful tools, play games, and develop relationships with the few potential allies still around. These quieter moments provide a welcome contrast to the horrors waiting outside, while giving players more reasons to get invested in the people they encounter.
Look Outside earned an Overwhelmingly Positive rating on Steam following its original PC release, with critics and players praising its disturbing atmosphere, grotesque imagery, and memorable approach to horror. Now, console players can discover what makes this unusual survival horror RPG worth looking into, provided they can resist the temptation to do exactly that.
