Square Enix has launched Final Fantasy Resonance across PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S and PC, bringing the long-running RPG franchise into HD-2D for the first time. The new release combines retro-inspired pixel art with modern presentation, strategic turn-based combat and appearances from some of the series’ most recognizable characters, including Cloud, Tidus and the Warrior of Light.

Players can also try Final Fantasy Resonance through a free demo, with save data carrying over to the full game on all platforms.

Based on the first story arc of the mobile RPG Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, Final Fantasy Resonance has been extensively rebuilt as a standalone console-quality RPG rather than simply porting the original experience. The story follows Rain, a young knight of the Kingdom of Grandshelt entrusted with commanding an airship squadron, as he sets out on an adventure alongside his childhood friend Laswell.

The journey features a new take on classic Final Fantasy combat, with players able to summon Visions, echoes of familiar characters who fight alongside the party and offer unique abilities. Battles revolve around exploiting enemy weaknesses, breaking through their defenses and staggering opponents to create opportunities for additional turns. Powerful Resonance attacks add another layer to the strategic encounters.

Beyond the main story, players can take on optional bosses, battle deadly monsters in the Colosseum and explore the Chamber of Arms, where formidable enemies guard legendary weapons. The adventure also features a confrontation with Ultima Weapon, a recurring foe throughout the Final Fantasy franchise.

With its HD-2D presentation, familiar faces and reworked take on a story originally told through a mobile game, Final Fantasy Resonance offers another way to experience the series’ blend of classic RPG mechanics and modern design. The game is available now on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam and Xbox on PC.
