Gotcha Gotcha Games has released the P2D Map Editor Demo for RPG Maker U2U on Steam, giving aspiring game developers an early opportunity to experiment with the software’s new approach to map creation. The demo is part of Steam Next Fest: October 2026 Edition, and any maps created with it can be saved and carried over to the full version when it launches.
RPG Maker U2U introduces P2D, or Perspective 2D, a new mapping system designed to give traditional 2D environments a greater sense of depth and elevation. The editor allows users to build their own maps, experiment with various visual effects, and preview character walking animations while developing their creations. Map data can then be transferred to the full software, making the demo a useful starting point for anyone interested in exploring its tools ahead of release.
There are a few limitations to keep in mind, however. The demo focuses exclusively on map creation and does not include the game-making features found in the complete software. Gotcha Gotcha Games also notes that some features are still in development and may change before the final release. The demo is scheduled to remain available through November 16, 2026.
Alongside the demo, Gotcha Gotcha Games has launched a community event titled “Let’s Make Some P2D Maps!” Participants can share screenshots of their creations through the RPG Maker U2U Steam Community Hub or on X using the hashtag #P2Dmapevent. Those submitting through Steam must add RPG Maker U2U to their wishlist, while participants on X must follow the software’s official account.
The event runs through November 15, with no rankings or judging involved. Instead, it is intended to give creators a place to share their ideas, and selected submissions may be featured on the official website, social media accounts, and Steam Community Hub.
The RPG Maker U2U P2D Map Editor Demo is available on Steam for a limited time, while the full software remains without a confirmed release date.
