Elegant Horse Studios is getting ready to put players through a test of patience with Flipping Is Hard, a physics-based platformer that launches on PC via Steam on October 16, 2026, for $14.99. With its launch just seven days away, the game promises a challenging climb through a bizarre mountain of discarded toys, forgotten gadgets, and childhood memories, with online co-op offering plenty of opportunities to turn frustration into comedy.
Players take control of Flippy, a brick phone that has been thrown into the trash, while its irresponsible owner, Jeff, remains stranded at the top of the Trashlands. Unable to walk, Flippy must flip end-over-end through 10 increasingly ridiculous and dangerous levels, navigating everything from storm drains and candy hills to neon grids and refrigerators. Along the way, players will encounter an assortment of strange characters, including a foul-mouthed Tamagotchi, an anarchist gummy bear, a rave-DJ gingerbread man, and an alien from a scrapped game.
There are two difficulty options to choose from, with Flipping Is Chill offering a more forgiving five-hour experience and Flipping Is Hard delivering a tougher challenge expected to take more than eight hours on average. Of course, the actual playtime will depend on players’ platforming skills, and the game warns that even a single missed jump could turn a seemingly simple climb into a prolonged struggle. There is a proper ending to reach, though, so determined players can eventually make it to the top.
Those who prefer to face the challenge alone can tackle the climb in single-player, which the developers describe as a more focused and meditative experience. Every mistake and victory rests entirely on the player’s shoulders, making each successful flip all the more satisfying.
Alternatively, Flipping Is Hard supports online co-op for up to 16 players, turning the climb into a shared ordeal where friends can help one another or inadvertently make things worse. Proximity voice chat encourages players to communicate as they navigate the hazards, while tools such as the Help Beam, teleporting Microwaves, and Pings add another layer of chaotic teamwork. The result is a climb that can be as entertaining to watch as it is difficult to complete, particularly for streamers and content creators looking for multiplayer mishaps.
There is more to discover throughout the Trashlands, too. Players can collect coins, achievements, challenges, and phone skins, while retro-inspired minigames such as Fnake, Floppy Road, and Flippy Bird provide additional diversions. A friendly narrator will also guide Flippy along the way, although the increasingly suspicious nature of the Trashlands suggests there may be more to this mountain of rubbish than initially meets the eye.
Whether you tackle the climb alone or bring up to 15 friends along for the ride, Flipping Is Hard is almost here. Just remember that getting to the top is only part of the challenge. Making it there with your friendships intact might be another matter entirely.
