TAITO and Clear River Games are bringing Bub and Bob back for another round of bubble-popping action, this time with a new Nintendo Switch 2 edition of Bubble Bobble 4 Friends: The Baron Is Back! that adds even more content to the colourful co-op adventure.
Bubble Bobble 4 Friends originally arrived in 2019 before The Baron Is Back! expanded the game with additional stages and the return of Baron von Blubba, the familiar foe from the original arcade classic. The new Nintendo Switch 2 Edition takes things a step further with Stardrop Mountain, a new collection of stages designed specifically for the updated release. The expansion introduces a new setting and brings Invaduh into the action as another threat for Bub, Bob, Peb and Pab to contend with.
The game supports up to four players in local co-op, allowing players to tackle its collection of stages together as Bub, Bob, Peb and Pab. The familiar Bubble Bobble formula remains at the heart of the experience, with players trapping enemies inside bubbles before popping them, while also using bubbles and environmental elements to navigate each stage. Across the main game and additional content, the Switch 2 release features 200 levels.
The Switch 2 version also brings some hardware-specific additions to the classic formula. The game will run at 1920×1080 resolution, while Camera Play allows players to use a connected camera to place their images inside the bubbles appearing on screen. The feature gives the cooperative gameplay an appropriately playful twist, particularly when several friends are playing together.
For fans of the series’ history, the package will also include the original Bubble Bobble from 1986, giving players the chance to jump between the modernized four-player adventure and the arcade game that started it all.
Bubble Bobble 4 Friends: The Baron Is Back! – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Stardrop Mountain is scheduled to launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on February 25, 2027, with physical and digital editions planned.
