Xbox is giving its most dedicated achievement hunters another way to show off their completed games, as Mythic Achievements are now available to Xbox Insiders.
The new feature is designed to recognize players who have unlocked every original achievement included with a game. Unlike standard Achievements, Mythic Achievements do not provide additional Gamerscore, instead serving as a separate marker for completing a game’s original achievement list. Achievements added later through DLC or updates are not required, meaning players who reach Mythic status will retain it even if a game receives additional achievements afterward.
One particularly notable aspect of the rollout is that Mythic Achievements are being applied retroactively. Eligible games that players have already completed can receive Mythic status without requiring them to go back and replay anything, and this also extends to certain Xbox 360 titles. That means longtime Xbox players may find that their existing completion history has already earned them several Mythic Achievements when they check their profiles.
Xbox is also adding new ways to keep track of that progress. A new Gaming tab on profiles will display achievements, Gamerscore milestone progress, completed games and Mythic Achievements, with Mythic completions receiving a distinct visual treatment. Players will also be able to look through their friends’ Gaming tabs to see which games they have taken to Mythic status.
For anyone still working toward a Mythic Achievement, Xbox is adding a progress bar to individual achievement lists. The system can highlight the original achievements that are still missing, while achievements added later are identified as add-ons so players can see exactly what counts toward Mythic completion. Similar progress information will also appear through the Xbox Guide and Achievement details.
Mythic Achievements are currently being tested by Xbox Insiders, with Xbox describing the rollout as an early look at the new feature. The company has not yet announced a broader release date, but the addition gives players another way to showcase the games they have completely conquered without changing how Gamerscore itself works.
