Karate Champ is stepping back into the ring, with Hamster bringing Data East’s 1986 action classic to modern consoles through the latest Console Archives release. Console Archives Karate Champ will launch digitally on September 24 for Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5 for $7.99.
Originally released for an 8-bit home console in 1986, Karate Champ is an action game built around timing and precision. Players can perform a variety of karate techniques using simple combinations of controls, with successful execution of major moves earning points as they work toward becoming the “Champ.” The release supports one to two players locally.
As with other games in Hamster’s Console Archives lineup, Karate Champ comes with a selection of features designed to make these older games more convenient to play on modern hardware. Players can customize their button layout, use multiple save points and adjust the screen presentation, while CRT-style filters are also available for those looking to recreate the appearance of older displays.
