The house is about to get a little more dangerous as Dungeons & Degenerate Gamblers takes its blackjack-inspired roguelike deckbuilding madness to consoles. Yogscast Games and New Zealand-based developer Purple Moss Collectors have announced that the game will launch on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch on October 9.
The console release follows a strong debut on PC, where Dungeons & Degenerate Gamblers reportedly grossed more than $1 million during its first month on sale. Rather than arriving as a stripped-down version, the PS5 and Switch editions will launch with the game’s latest content and improvements already included, giving console players access to the substantial 2.0 “Doubling Down” update from day one.
For anyone unfamiliar with the game, Dungeons & Degenerate Gamblers takes the familiar rules of blackjack and throws them into a roguelike deckbuilder where conventional playing cards are just the beginning. Players can build bizarre decks featuring everything from tarot cards and business cards to store loyalty punch-cards, hall passes and birthday cards, using them to manipulate point totals, deal direct damage and even steal chips from their opponents.
Runs begin with a choice of starter deck before players head through branching dungeon floors, picking up Lucky Charms and making increasingly risky decisions along the way. The goal is to build powerful combinations while managing the ever-present gamble of pushing a hand too far, eventually taking on the tavern’s most corrupt high-rollers.
The “Doubling Down” update gives the console version plenty of additional content to work with. Four new floors have been added, taking players through Surveillance, Laboratory, Anxiety and Apathy, with each environment introducing its own events and enemies. More than 50 Lucky Charms also expand the options available during a run, with each providing a persistent effect that can shape a player’s strategy.
Players looking for something beyond the standard experience will also have Custom Runs, allowing various rules and modifiers to be adjusted, while the Daily Run mode provides a fresh challenge every day through a fixed starting deck and predetermined modifiers. Three new cards, a new Unique Chip, reworked cards and Unique Chips, and additional enemies round out the latest additions.
With its full suite of current content included at launch, Dungeons & Degenerate Gamblers will give PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch players a chance to take their own shot at turning a questionable hand into a winning run when the game arrives on October 9.
