The Game Bakers has announced that survival climbing adventure Cairn will come to Switch 2 in early 2027.

The game originally launched for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam on January 29, challenging players to reach the summit of Mount Kami, a mountain that has never been successfully climbed.

Players take on the role of professional climber Aava as she plots her own route up the mountain. Cairn features a realistic climbing system that requires players to carefully manage their movement, balance, stamina and grip while choosing where to place their hands and feet. Every section of the mountain presents its own challenges, and a poorly planned move can result in a dangerous fall.

Survival is also a major part of the ascent, with players needing to manage supplies including pitons, chalk, finger tape, food, water and medicine. Bivouacs can be established along the way, while exploring the mountain can uncover resources that help Aava continue her climb.

The game also features an Expedition mode, where players can take on different mountains as Aava or Marco, choose between climbing styles such as alpine and free solo, and tackle additional challenges while comparing their performances with other climbers.

Cairn comes from The Game Bakers, the studio behind Furi and Haven. Its music and sound design were created by members of the teams behind Limbo, Inside, Control and Cocoon, while comic-book artist Mathieu Bablet handled the game’s art and story.

Cairn will launch for Switch 2 in early 2027.
