Marvelous has revealed Eternal Anima, the new RPG previously known as Project Life is RPG, bringing together a group of acclaimed genre veterans for an adventure inspired by the golden age of JRPGs. The game will launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, and PC via Steam on March 4, 2027.

The development team includes director Katsuhisa Higuchi, story concept writer Keisuke Makino, and scenario writer Kazushige Nojima. Eternal Anima combines the look and feel of late-1990s and early-2000s RPGs with modern visuals, a time-traveling story, and a strategic twist on traditional turn-based combat.

The story follows Wade, who finds himself on the run after questioning the kingdom of Urvis Ael’s belief that yearning for a better future is a capital offense. His escape eventually leads him across different eras, where he must work with allies from across generations to prevent catastrophes in the past, uncover a lost history, and ultimately change the present.

Wade’s Psychometry ability allows him to uncover memories hidden within objects and inherit the Abilities and Classes of heroes from the past. Combat also introduces Future Sight, allowing players to predict when enemies will act and what will happen during each turn. Players can then alter those predictions through their commands, potentially delaying or cancelling enemy attacks before they happen.

The adventure will span multiple continents and cultures, with characters able to encounter their ancestors and descendants across different points in history. Actions taken in the past can affect the present, while inherited abilities allow players to combine skills from different eras to create their own approach to combat.

In North America, physical and digital editions of Eternal Anima will be available for PlayStation 5 and Switch 2. The PS5 standard edition will cost $49.99, while the Switch 2 edition, which includes the full game on the game card, will cost $59.99. Limited editions will also be available for $79.99 on PS5 and $89.99 on Switch 2, including the game, a two-disc soundtrack, nine character art cards with a display stand, and an art book.

In Europe, the standard editions will cost €49.99 on both platforms, while the limited editions will cost €79.99.

With its emphasis on time travel, inherited abilities, strategic turn-based battles, and classic JRPG influences, Eternal Anima looks to blend the sensibilities of the genre’s golden era with a more modern approach when it launches in 2027.
