Konami is bringing one of the more nostalgic Yu-Gi-Oh! video game series back with a full remake. Yu-Gi-Oh! TAG FORCE GX has been announced for PC, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, reimagining Yu-Gi-Oh! GX TAG FORCE 3 with modern visuals, enhanced Dueling and plenty of additions for fans of the original.
The remake is scheduled to launch on February 16, 2027, with pre-orders now available on all three platforms.
Yu-Gi-Oh! TAG FORCE GX returns players to Duel Academy during their final year, combining the series’ card-battling gameplay with the school-life elements that helped make the original TAG FORCE games stand out. Players can explore the academy, participate in extracurricular activities and choose from more than 100 visually upgraded characters to serve as their Tag Duel partner.
The Dueling system has also been expanded considerably. The remake includes more than 3,800 cards, adding a selection of fan-favourite cards that were not available in the original TAG FORCE 3. This gives players considerably more room to experiment with Deck construction and create their own strategies.
Duel Academy has received some attention outside of the card battles as well. New and returning mini-games give players additional activities to pursue while exploring the school, offering more ways to experience life as a student between Duels.
Online multiplayer is another major addition. Players will be able to compete in both 1v1 and Tag Duels, with Casual Duels and Room Matches available for those looking to take their Decks online.
For longtime fans, Gallery Mode will offer another dose of nostalgia by bringing back story scenes from both Yu-Gi-Oh! GX TAG FORCE and Yu-Gi-Oh! GX TAG FORCE 2.
Konami is also offering different bonuses depending on the version purchased. The Steam edition comes with a digital e-book, while physical editions of Yu-Gi-Oh! TAG FORCE GX for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 include three special Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME cards.
These include Yubel, presented as a Starlight Rare with alternate artwork, Wicked Canon, an Ultra Rare making its physical debut, and Hope for the Future, another Ultra Rare featuring Elemental HERO Neos. The latter two cards are particularly notable for arriving physically around 20 years after their respective debuts in the Yu-Gi-Oh! GX anime era.
Pre-order bonuses will also differ between platforms. Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 players will receive a Yu-Gi-Oh! MASTER DUEL code containing digital versions of Yubel, Wicked Canon and Hope for the Future, along with a Winged Kuriboh Duel Mate. Steam players will receive a collection of wallpapers and icons instead.
With its expanded card pool, updated presentation, online multiplayer and return to Duel Academy, Yu-Gi-Oh! TAG FORCE GX is shaping up to be more than a simple revival of TAG FORCE 3. The remake brings the classic GX-era RPG back for modern platforms while retaining the combination of Dueling and school-life elements that defined the series.
