007 First Light has received a substantial new update today with the launch of Extended Operations, a free DLC release that adds several highly requested features and new content to IO Interactive’s take on the James Bond origin story.
Available now, Extended Operations gives players a reason to return to 007 First Light with the addition of New Game+, a new 00 difficulty, expanded TacSim content, Photo Mode, improved weapon handling animations and a new gameplay twist that means Bond himself can now be thrown from ledges.
New Game+ becomes available after completing the campaign on any difficulty, allowing players to replay the story from the beginning or from completed checkpoints while retaining their unlocked outfits and gadgets. Completing the campaign also unlocks the new 00 difficulty, which is designed to provide a considerably tougher challenge for players who have mastered the game’s existing difficulties.
The new mode makes changes across combat, stealth and social encounters. Enemies react more quickly to bodies and disturbances, tougher guard variants can appear, gadgets cannot be used within a guard’s line of sight, and combat becomes considerably less forgiving. Bond can be killed in just two hits, while parry and side-step timing is tightened and the amount of agency gained during combat is reduced. Players can also bring their preferred outfits and gadgets into New Game+ without being locked into 00 difficulty.
Extended Operations also expands the game’s TacSim content with the previously teased Valhalla Protocol missions. Set in the Slovakian Mountains, the four missions give players the opportunity to put the Aston Martin Valhalla through its paces during both day and night scenarios. The vehicle comes equipped with Bond’s weaponry, which can be used to eliminate targets, earn time bonuses and chase higher scores.
Bond is also heading back to The Pearl in Vietnam for a new TacSim mission. This time, players must infiltrate a heavily guarded villa and recover classified documents, with the entire property now serving as an active gameplay area. The villa’s redesigned interior also provides additional opportunities for stealth, while the TacSim missions now allow players to access the full weapon arsenal from the main campaign.
Another major addition is Photo Mode, one of the more requested features from the 007 First Light community. Players can now pause the action and compose shots using character posing, UI controls, camera and lens adjustments, brightness and post-processing options, as well as different backgrounds and logo frames. It provides a way to capture everything from Bond’s missions in the Grand Carpathian to the neon-lit streets of Aleph.
The update also brings improved weapon handling animation fidelity, giving Bond’s movements and weapon behaviour more precision. There is even a new danger to watch out for during encounters, as the ledge takedown that can be used against enemies can now be used against Bond as well.
007 First Light is available now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, as well as Amazon.com. The Nintendo Switch 2 version is scheduled to launch in March 2027.
