Infidelity, the talent responsible for the NES-to-SNES ports of Contra and Mega Man, has revealed his next project, which is bringing Zelda II: The Adventure of Link to the 16-bit system.

Infidelity added

“It’s playable from beginning to end, but please read the included readme file, for the laundry list of known issues that I still need to tackle,”

Zelda II: The Adventure of Link was a major departure from the rest of the series, being a more traditional side-scroller, and contained action RPG elements such as experience points and leveling that have not been part of other Legend of Zelda games. The game is often considered a controversial one, but it does have its fans, including the author of this article.

Infidelity has made the port available to the general public and you can find out more here and here
