Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is entering its third year of post-launch support, and Focus Entertainment and Saber Interactive are kicking things off with a major new update. Anniversary Update II is now available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, bringing a new PvE mode, progression system, weapons, armour and the first Season Pass 3 content to the game.

The biggest addition in Patch 15 is arguably the arrival of Chaos Space Marines as playable characters in PvE. The new Chaos Siege Mode allows players to take on Tyranids, Cadians and loyalist Space Marines while fighting across two new Siege sectors set on Avarax. It marks the first time players have been able to take control of Chaos Space Marines in the game’s PvE content, giving the latest update a significant new twist beyond the usual additions of weapons and cosmetics.

The update also introduces the Crucible System, which gives players a new way to challenge themselves by taking on Penances that add debuffs and other negative modifiers to missions. Successfully completing these more difficult runs works toward new rewards, including a full Lamenters armour set. For players looking for another reason to return to the game’s missions, the system provides an additional layer of progression built around deliberately making encounters more difficult.

The long-requested One-Handed Thunder Hammer is also finally available, with the weapon usable by the Tactical, Assault, Bulwark and Techmarine classes. It joins three new heroic weapon variants for the Power Axe, Auto Bolt Rifle and Thunder Hammer, along with two new Pauldrons and a new Iron Halo available through the Armoury.

Anniversary Update II also marks the beginning of Season Pass 3’s content rollout. The Space Wolves Champion Pack adds a Wolf Guard Champion skin for the Bulwark, complete with a Space Wolves shield and unique One-Handed Hammer, while the Exorcists Cosmetic Pack adds six armour pieces inspired by the daemon-hunting Chapter.

With Anniversary Update II now live, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is officially moving into its third year of additional content. Saber Interactive and Focus Entertainment previously revealed the game’s Year 3 roadmap, promising further additions before the game reaches its third anniversary. For now, players can jump into the new Chaos Siege Mode, experiment with the Crucible System and put the long-awaited One-Handed Thunder Hammer to use.
