The depths of Tertium have become even more dangerous, as Fatshark has released the latest free update for Warhammer 40,000: Darktide. Titled Depths of the Damned, the update is available now on Steam, PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, sending Strike Teams into previously unexplored territory beneath the Hive.
The centerpiece of the update is Spillway, a new mission that takes players into the Water Cartel’s domain, where a sprawling network of tunnels, waterways and forgotten passages hides plenty of threats. The route through the area is not entirely straightforward either, with players having to choose their path through the labyrinth while dealing with the horrors waiting below.
Eventually, those who survive the descent will come face-to-face with the Prophet of Decay, a powerful and heavily corrupted Psyker lurking in the deepest reaches of the Hive. Taking down the new boss will require more than simply unloading firepower, with teamwork and careful decision-making playing a major role in surviving the encounter.
Players also have six new weapons to bring into the fight, with three new weapon families and three new weapon marks being added to Darktide’s arsenal. The new weapons include the Ogryn Cruncher, Huntsman’s Shotgun and Ogryn Thugshot, alongside the Crusher Krourk MK VII, Double-Barrelled Shotgun Krouk Mk IV, Gromm Mk I Battle Maul and Mk V Slab Shield.
Depths of the Damned also makes a number of balance and talent tree changes across Darktide’s classes and weapons. Talent trees have been refined by removing minor stat boosts, allowing players to put more of their talent points toward abilities that can have a greater impact during a mission.
The update also kicks off the new Allies and Adversaries live event, which sees Interrogator Rannick assisting Grendyl’s allies across three missions. Players will eventually descend into the depths of the Torrent to help the Ragged King deal with a particularly troubling problem.
New cosmetics are arriving alongside the update as well, with the Cadian 512th and Krieg 158th regiments being added to the Commodore Vestures premium store.
With a new mission, a new boss, additional weapons, gameplay changes and a new live event, Depths of the Damned gives Darktide players plenty of reasons to head back into the depths of Tertium. The latest chapter of the fight against Chaos is available now.
