Sega Saturn fans have been eating good with a slew of fan translations for the past decade. Thanks to the always dedicated Sega community they put out many patches for many text heavy import Saturn games we never had thought would be available in English 20 years ago. Games like the rest of the Shining Force III saga, Policenauts, Grandia, Sakura Wars.
Princess Crown has been the most requested game in the Sega Saturn community to finally receive a fan translation. It has been in progress for a whopping 15 years actually. CyberWarriorX and SamIAm originally started on that project years ago but there were no updates on the translation for a very long time. Recently someone from the Sega Xtreme forums who goes under the name “eadmaster” decided to pick up where they left off. Big kudos for eadmaster for making this patch see the light of day.
Princess Crown was the debut action/RPG from Vanillaware who later on made other beautiful 2D hand drawn RPG classics like Odin Sphere, Muramasa, and Dragon’s Crown. Much like Odin Sphere the game is on a 2D side scrolling field but unlike the more well known spiritual successor the battles are turn based. Princess Crown has never seen any English release period. The game was also released on PSP back in 2005 in Japan but Atlus never localized that either.
The patch is available if you do some googling. For legal purposes the links cannot be shared. Just a warning though it is still an early build so there might be some bugs. Hopefully they will be updates to the patch in the future. Here is a video from the YouTube channel SEGA SATURN, SHIRO!
