bitobit has announced that THE NEWZEALAND STORY: Untold Adventure, a remake of TAITO‘s 1988 classic THE NEWZEALAND STORY, is now available for Steam at a launch discount price of $17.99.
A Cult Classic Brought Back to Life
Originally released in 1988 by TAITO, THE NEWZEALAND STORY quickly became a cult classic thanks to its distinctive world, playfulness, and inventive level design. Today it returns in a new form, updated for modern platforms while carefully preserving the feel and charm that made the original so memorable.
A New Chapter in Tiki’s Journey
In the original, TAITO crafted the stages with inspiration drawn from New Zealand. Bitobit has created an entirely original fifth stage inspired by the Kaikoura district in the south of New Zealand to honor the heritage of the arcade game.
Like the other stages, this area features four levels and a brand-new boss, the colossal WORMAGEDDON, designed specifically for this remake.
Discover a brand-new map layout, a new health system, and many more new features that you’ll be able to enjoy only when playing it. Embark on an extraordinary journey that takes TIKI across New Zealand’s exotic landscapes: lush forests, rugged coastlines, sea caves, mysterious labyrinths, and more, to save his friends and his loved one.
Meet Your Heroes
The heart of THE NEWZEALAND STORY is the characters, turning your journey into something deeply human and genuinely inspiring.
Born from the unexpected, TIKI proves that even the smallest hero can carry the greatest courage. Driven by PHEE-PHEE’s enduring spirit and the unbreakable bond of his fellow Kiwis, his journey is one of heart and togetherness, revitalized for a new era but instantly recognisable to veteran players.
Continue the Legacy
With the return of THE NEWZEALAND STORY, bitobit affirms its commitment to preserving classic video games and celebrating TAITO’s craft and vision.
THE NEWZEALAND STORY is designed to bring a tear to longtime fans while sparking wonder in a new generation. The same thrill once felt before the arcade cabinet now comes alive again on PC for players discovering it for the first time.
