Independent game developer and publisher The Behemoth presented their first-ever company roadmap through a livestream this morning, announcing updates for previous titles like Castle Crashers and BattleBlock Theater while simultaneously looking forward to the prototyping phase for the studio’s next game. Through this roadmap, the team aims to address several popular fan requests from the past 21 years while establishing a new level of transparency with players.
Inspired by the beloved Painter Boss from the studio’s classic couch co-op beat em’ up, the Castle Crashers Painter Boss Paradise DLC is soon coming to Steam! This marks the first downloadable content created for the game since the Blacksmith and Pink Knight playable character packs were released in 2012.
The update’s key features include:
- Steam workshop capabilities – create your own knight skins, choose your preferred magic, and share with the world!
- New official character – play as Paint Junior, use your imagination, and create powerful art to vanquish your foes!
- New player and weapon artwork for all official playable characters (with an option to toggle on or off).
Fans of Hatty Hattington will be delighted to hear that BattleBlock Theater on Steam will soon receive a quality of life update, including:
- Enhanced rendering – no more crunchy compression and much higher resolution!
- Lightning fast frame rates, limited only by your monitor’s capability!
- Higher audio bitrates for delicious sound.
- Various bug fixes and overall enhancements!
- Support for more controller types.
Perhaps even more exciting, the team noted that these changes could only mean one thing – BattleBlock Theater is being prepared for a modern console release!
Behemoth fans on PlayStation also received some exciting news during the broadcast – Alien Hominid Invasion and Alien Hominid HD, the studio’s latest releases, are being prepared for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5! Ensuring all prior games receive some polish and attention, The Behemoth also announced later plans for a quality of life update for Pit People, the team’s wacky venture into the strategy genre that wrapped up development back in 2018. All of the aforementioned game updates will be rolling out while the team looks ahead to prototyping and developing new titles.
