Indie-focused video game publisher and developer Retroware is ready to take players back to the past to experience the ultimate NERD RAGE. The Angry Video Game Nerd 8-Bit is available digitally today for $19.99 on all modern platforms.

Developed by Programancer, the creator of Prison City and The Transylvania Adventure of Simon Quest, The Angry Video Game Nerd 8-Bit combines fast and furious action, brutal boss battles, and precision platforming designed to put your retrogaming skills to the test as you guide The Nerd through six stages inspired by his most hated NES games to defeat a monstrous corruption.

This authentic NES-hard challenge, combined with all-new footage filmed exclusively for the game to flesh out its story, makes you feel like you’re experiencing an interactive episode of the long-running Cinemassacre web series.

To celebrate the game’s launch, Retroware has released a new trailer. Get ready for chunky chiptunes, screen-filling sprites, and a message from The Nerd himself in the trailer below:

In addition to today’s digital release on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam, an NES-compatible version of the game is on the way thanks to Pittsburgh-based indie publisher Mega Cat Studios. Pre-orders for the NES physical edition and boxed console versions will be available soon via Limited Run Games.

“Playing AVGN 8-Bit feels like you’re entering my subconscious mind as the Nerd, encountering all the enemies and stages that I’ve reviewed on the show,” said The Angry Video Game Nerd, James Rolfe. “It’s an amalgamation of all your NES dreams and nightmares. From Retroware, teaming up with Mega Cat Studios and Programancer, this is sure to bring back all those retro memories of gripping the controller, screaming, and fist pumping.”
