■ Story
A Story of Four Ages across a Thousand Years
To lift the curse on Princess Heuria of Huther, Elliot and Faie will cross through the Doorway of Time to visit different periods in history.
They will travel from their own time, the Age of Safekeeping, further and further into the past. Across every age, a terrible threat looms over Elliot and Faie’s adventure.
—Age of Safekeeping: The Present
—Age of Reconstruction: The Dark Ages
—Age of Magic: A Golden Age
—Age of Budding: The Birth of Civilization
■ Age of Reconstruction
Further into the past from Elliot’s home Age of Safekeeping is the Age of Reconstruction. Amidst the ruins of a more prosperous time, humanity’s remnants live on the brink of extinction.
There is no spell of Safekeeping in this age to repel the beastmen. Humans cling together in a village called Littlehope, eking out an existence with meager resources and defenses. Though most of the villagers have given in to despair, one young man with a glimmer of hope in his heart looks to the future.
■ Characters
Heurich (voiced by Daniel Sean Smith in English, Nobuhiko Okamoto in Japanese)
An adventurer from the village of Littlehope. He finds a kindred spirit in Elliot after their chance encounter, and shares with our hero information about the ruins and treasures discovered during his own adventures. While traveling the continent in search of a cure for his childhood friend Diona’s illness, Heurich hopes the power and wisdom gained on his journeys will be the key to pulling the world out of its dark ages.
Diona (voiced by Katrina Salisbury in English, Haruka Tomatsu in Japanese)
A young woman who grew up alongside Heurich in Littlehope. A chronic illness keeps her indoors most days. Her caring nature has earned her a warm place in many a heart of the other villagers. She constantly frets about Heurich’s reckless adventuring, so much so that their conversations often lead to quarrels.
Heurich (voiced by Rebecca Wang in English, Chiwa Saito in Japanese)
Littlehope’s resident historian and mutual friend of Heurich and Diona. Despite the world’s desperate condition, her passion for learning about humanity’s past drives her research. She takes an interest in Elliot and his similarities to Heurich, and offers him her expert advice.
■ System: Accessories
In addition to weapons and magicite, Elliot can equip and change accessories at any time from the equipment menu. Accessories are imbued with various effects beneficial to adventuring and should be selected in accordance with the demands of the ruins or foes Elliot currently faces.
—Equip the discerning monocle to double the window acceptable for a precise guard. It’s the prefect accessory for countering enemies that attack from a distance or bosses with an overbearing offense.
—The defalling charm protects Elliot from damage taken when falling into pits and lava—welcome insurance to have when navigating narrow footing and floating platforms.
■ System: Quests
In each age are people who need Elliot’s help. Hear them out and undertake the quests they give. There are some items that can only be obtained by fulfilling their requests.
—Begin a quest by speaking to those with a quest icon above their heads. Quests may involve anything from gathering items to fighting beastmen and more.
—Story progress may render some quests unable to be completed. When such an alert is displayed, make it a point to clear those quests before progressing further.
■ System: Shrines of Life
Mysterious structures known as shrines of life dot the map. Inside of them, players’ skills and intellect are tested, with special rewards awaiting those capable of overcoming the trials.
—A shrine of life always has an adventuring guidepost at its entrance, so you can quickly try again when things don’t go as planned.
—Trials include both combat-related and puzzle-solving challenges. Clearing a trial awards a shrine of life, which restores Elliot’s vitality. Collect four shards of life to increase Elliot’s max vitality by one.
■ System: Bonus Drops
Defeating enemies in succession without taking damage will trigger a bonus in which the defeated drop more loot. Taking damage will terminate the bonus.
—Bonus time is your chance to rake in the tul! Trounce as many foes as you can to fund your further adventures.
—In addition to tul, bonus drops increase the likelihood of finding arrows, bombs, and items that raise attack and defense. Continuing to defeat enemies during the bonus will raise the bonus level and the item drop rate in kind.
■ Adventuring Diversion: Cat Collecting
No matter the era, Philabieldia is filled with cats. If Elliot finds one, he can take it under his wing to bring it to a cat-fancying traveler in town who will reward Elliot for the number of cats he’s collected. Afterward, Elliot can care for and play with any cats he’s brought back.
—If you hear a cat’s meow during your adventuring, be sure to take a look around. Pay attention to any help Faie may have to offer, too.
—Rewards include all sorts of helpful items, such as those to help find more cats or increase the number of arrows and bombs Elliot can carry. Don’t take a catnap on cat collecting!
—You can feed cats you’ve brought back to town, from a selection of fish, meat, and cheese. Different cats have different tastes, and filling them up on the flavors they prefer will make them like you more.
—Once a cat has sufficiently warmed up to you, you can invite it to the orphanage to play with cat toys. Visit the item shop for all your pet care needs.
