There is good news for fans of the classic TAITO game Night Striker, as the company is joining forces with M2 to create a ‘porting project’ surrounding the game. Night Striker was originally released in 1989 and used Taito’s Z System arcade hardware and played similarly to Sega’s Space Harrier and After Burner, using powerful 2D scaling to create the impression of 3D movement.

Night Striker has received ports in the past, first on the Sega CD in 1993, but that port was unable to accurately replicate the arcade game, and this was followed by home ports on the PlayStation in 1995 and a Saturn port in 1996, all three exclusive to Japan. There was also a version released for the PlayStation 2 on the Taito Memories II Gekan collection in 2007, but that was also exclusive to Japan. The  SegaCD version of the game was recently re-released on the Sega GenesisDrive Mini 2, but better ports are now coming.

TAITO has announced that as the first phase of this new Night Striker project, the arcade game will be included in Taito Arcade Memories Vol. 2 for the Egret II Mini micro-console and further ports will be announced at a later time.
